DONT WORRY WITH THE DOUBLE SIDED TAPE ! Working in an upholstery/saddlery shop we do use this double sided tape Obviousely its a fair trick saving a lot of time waisting and other hassle! ITS NOT THAT THICK and the sticking is very good to hold pieces that need to be sewn together especially zipper tape ;velcros patches tags and so own ... Great improvement in sewing tips as well as electric sewing machine.I would not bother about having a jacket with double side tape used in the assembly process.

You are right - the tape was about a similar thickness like a plaster but significantly thinner than duct-tape (we call it “Panzer-Tape”)

They do even teach that trick @school in saddlery /upholstery courses as well as using stapples! Its not big deal just time saving. You can have the perfect jacket doing hand stitching.tanning the leather the traditional way and assembling the panels !!! by the way just done these 2 customs leather seats before vacation COWHIDE VEGETAL TANNING and double sided tape was used while assembling the panels.seats are for a jaguar xj car.

I hava an 1998 xk8 jag [aka: the paper weight], and redid the drivers seat. brother what a pita, so I have to hand it to ya, on what outstanding work ya did on the xj seats. just removing them and disassembling is task that unless you have done it, that is a job in itself. the gremlins at ford must have had a say in the early models. btw: staples were originally used, and I did as well....along with glue, dyes, and anything else I could to get the job done.

Agree the custom design pattern with Diamond stitches and traditional tuck n'roll and leather piping was adapted to the seats you need a lot of calm concentration and skill while doing all the stitching ...so using tricks like double sided tape to hold the pieces together is sometime very helpfull while sewing .

The first thing when i look at a new jacket/garment is the stiching the way it been sewn. Then i will check if the" jacket"is symetric (the adjustement of the pieces together) to me its the most important thing the leather and finish come after... The eye mustbe satisfactory just need to have a nice feeling touching the leather. No need to check if double sided tape has been used.

its been sitting for about 9 months. the gloss coat is pealing, there is cancer in the bottom rear drivers side fender [wing], and the starter motor? solinoid?, alternator? have now made it not start....pix of a cat in need of care? I got it to drive occasionally, and the wife liked it big time. and I started the redo on it, but I have run out of time, money, and patience. so she sits. funny thing about jags, they lose value fast, and can be purchased for nickels on the dollar. then, the begin to accrue in value. and then, lo and behold, they become collectors cars [investments]....ya just have to live long enough, and have the patience of job.

Passed on a chance to buy an XK 120, and a Morgan years ago for all the same reasons.
Wound up with a 64 Triumph TR-4A IRS . Thought that it would be easier to maintain ….. it wasn’t

years ago, I had a Morgan 4+4, it was a easy one to maintain. dual carbs on a cortina engine, wood chassis, and I fitted a fold down wind screen on it, and remote shifter [no double clutch].i even went to the Morgan factory, had tea with Robert Morgan, and got the grand tour of guys hand building the cars. watta hoot. they were not exactly fast, but classy and could keep up with traffic on the highway. and then there was the 57 mga, 61 mga, tr-3, alfas, etc. as cool as all of them were, they just were not in the same league as todays rice burners.
