What a 'get'. Well done!Taking this thread on a slight tangent but still with the same DNA of the theme… I am a huge World Cup alpine ski fan and every year I subscribe to PeacockTV+, ski and snowboard live, as well as use a VPN to watch the Austrian and Swiss coverage of the World Cup tour. I follow the men and women’s Alpine ski races closely and really enjoy slalom, giant slalom, super G and downhill. (As well as ski cross, freeski/ snowboard big air, half pipe and slope-style)
Well I had a rare opportunity to acquire an actual used ski team jacket… The US ski team get redesigned gear every few years and this was the year for new colors and new sponsors… So American World Cup alpine ski racer and 2022 Olympic athlete Keely Cashman put a few of her items up for sale! I saw her post on Facebook and had no intention of purchasing anything but was curious… Then I saw her US ski team jacket! I had to have it! Lol! In these photos if you look closely there’s an interesting related theme here associated with familiar characteristics of original A2 jacket collecting… you can see where patches were removed as the stitching holes remain… On this particular jacket Toyota was the big sponsor of the season so Land Rover (who sponsored them the previous year) oval patch was removed and you can see this on the jacket as well as a slightly longer Land Rover labeled US ski team patch used to be on the shoulder… You can see the stitching from that and they replaced it with the general US ski team logo patch. (Rubber patches!)
Anyway she signed it for me! I am so thrilled and I am such a fan boy lol! I actually was able to communicate with her directly so when I purchased the jacket I asked her if she would sign it for me and she replied to me directly saying yes and asked where I wanted it signed… On the inside or the outside etc. These jackets cost of the athletes $550! (Yes they have to buy their own gear, jackets and racing equipment!) Of course the more wins you get, the more sponsors you acquire, the more endorsements you achieve then a lot of stuff is provided for you but the teams as a whole (and this includes all countries) have to pay their own travel expenses and they have to purchase their own equipment. Foundations and Team Fundraising events help raise money as well as corporate sponsors but typically personal wearable items like jackets, helmets and racing suits are purchased by the athletes.
She sold this jacket to me for $300… I thought that was such a great deal considering I bought it directly from the athlete herself and she autographed it! Yay!!!!
