Five Star Irvin Review

An update regarding this pattern which some might find interesting or useful...

Inspired and impressed by this post, and absolutely loving this reddish brown sheepskin, I started an email conversation with five star a few weeks ago about ordering an Irvin. I was dealing not with Shawn, but Fargham. We had a somewhat stilted conversation over a couple of weeks around sizing, with several suggestions going back and forth, but by the end (and having been asked to send some fit photos) I was fairly satisfied they had a good idea of what I was looking for (nothing complicated, essentially a standard 40" pattern with some added length on the back and sleeves). I was quite clear I was keen on that particular hide and they encouraged me to place an order on the product page after which point they would begin production.

It's important to note that the product page itself (https://www.fivestarleather.us/prod...acket-1940-41-pattern-sheepskin-flight-russet) actually shows that lovely old style sheepskin. On placing the order, curiously, 200 dollars was added to the subtotal of the item which after flagging it to them, they refunded to me about a week later.

Anyway, a few days after placing the order, Fargham informs me 'to check' that I am happy with their new style sheepskin, which he describes as 'deep dark brown' and claims they have changed to as it is more realistic for an Irvin. Pics attached of that. Though it looks nice in its own way, and the fleece does appeal, I feel this is far too dark to be considered faithful to the original, and too close to black in colour for my personal tastes. Unfortunately, he said this is now all they offer and there are no other sheepskins available, which was a real disappointment to me.

Overall not a very positive experience, and I feel they should be more up front about their offering from the outset. Keen to hear your opinions.

When I get few minutes I can go into more details about the sheepskin Shawn has used.
I was involved in the whole process as the Irvin was patterned from 2 originals I sent.
I have both colours 2nd and 3rd as I wasn't happy with the colour it was not correct.
I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

AGREE it looks like a very dark seal brown but the fleece seems to be very nice.
