Korean War era vintages could run just a little bit more.In the US I’d say $300-400, tops.

Korean War G-1s are much cooler than Vietnam War G-1s- I'd pay up to $1,000 for a mint 55J14 or 7823 in my size and $500 to $600 for a wearable one. The Vietnam G-1s are worth more the closer you are to 1960- a 7823 A or B is worth much more than a 7823 d or E. So a range of $600 close to 1960 to $400 toward 1969.I don't know much about G-1s. I'd have to read the very good thread about USN jackets in detail.
I haven't delved into it yet, perhaps a little deliberately, as there are already too many jackets I'd like to have.
But from what I understand, it seems that there are still original G-1s available, in wearable condition, for a decent price ?
If so, then I'd rather bet on an original.
A real beginner's question : what price should I consider spending to get a nice original (Korean War/Vietnam War) and portable G-1 ?

Hahaha! You will- and it will be worth it. A wearable G-1 from 1960 back is a lot of fun to wear and as good and durable as any repro.Thank you very much ZuZu, very useful informations.
I need to learn my lessons before I know exactly what I'm looking for.
... but I know myself.... I hope I don't end up spending $1500 on a NOS jacket from the early 50's
Seconded! Goatskin + nylon thread is a winning combination when it comes to withstanding the test of time.Hahaha! You will- and it will be worth it. A wearable G-1 from 1960 back is a lot of fun to wear and as good and durable as any repro.
Agreed - I should have read a bit closer - I was thinking $300-400 for a Vietnam G-1 (mainly thinking about D- and E-series). Korean War would be significantly higher.Korean War G-1s are much cooler than Vietnam War G-1s- I'd pay up to $1,000 for a mint 55J14 or 7823 in my size and $500 to $600 for a wearable one. For your information, my 1946 W&G ANJ3-A, size 40, in horsehide, will probably go on sale soon.OK... I need a G-1 !
... I'll read the thread on USN jackets right away.

But I'm afraid a size 40 is a bit small, especially for the length of the sleeves.
I'm 6'02 tall and have a 39-inch chest (I have James Stewart syndrome).
Would you have any dimensions for me ?
It’s so funny Jan. It looks trim (as is the cut) on you, but I thought it looked the same on me and I know I have a bigger chest! Thanks Kermit, it means a lot coming from someone with your eye for detail. I'm a big fan of the early Foster G-1s. Just a really great silhouette and collar shape. If you're interested in a great repro, you know the folks to talk to. AVI would be a solid choice too, as their 55J14 is a copy of an early Foster.
the only thing I’d argue is that Vietnam era G-1s smell better.Korean War G-1s are much cooler than Vietnam War G-1s- I'd pay up to $1,000 for a mint 55J14 or 7823 in my size and $500 to $600 for a wearable one.
