The top photo of the crashed P-47 has 28 victories . I’m guessing that was Gabby Gabreski’s plane from when he was shot down and became a POW.

That's his- Wiki says HV-A was on all his planes which were unmarked with nose art.

Dolores “Jackie” Moggridge of the absolutely essential Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA). She was just aged 20 when she joined the ATA and had only 2 weeks training with the ATA before beginning ferrying aircraft. By war's end she'd flown an astonishing 83 different types of aircraft.

Indeed, the vital role of the women, and men, of the Air Transport Auxiliary is sometimes overlooked. Also overlooked is the fact that from around 1943 I believe the women received equal pay to the men.

Newly completed Halifax bomber departs Fairey Aviation Company Ltd, Errwood Park Works, at Stockport on a convoy of 7 lorries which after build up, it will depart for RAF Ringway, Manchester. Fairey built some 150 of the type.
