Some of the erks from 85 Sqn mucking around at Lille-Seclin, France in November '39 during the Sitzkrieg. Note the old school, first generation, fabric winged Hurri too.
The P-47's turbocharger is truly enormous. It's amazing how far it's positioned from the engine.
The entire fuselage was buildt around the engine and the turbosuper charger. The JUG was with the tempest anTyphoon a very impressive plane. The P-47's turbocharger is truly enormous. It's amazing how far it's positioned from the engine.
What a photo. Imagine walking down the street and seeing a parade of lorries carrying a heavy WW2 bomber in parts on its way to being assembled. Those were definitely different (and terrifying) times.Newly completed Halifax bomber departs Fairey Aviation Company Ltd, Errwood Park Works, at Stockport on a convoy of 7 lorries which after build up, it will depart for RAF Ringway, Manchester. Fairey built some 150 of the type.

Tall fella! Brilliant photo Tim, full of detail and atmosphere. Thanks for posting.
My Mum's side of the family are big buggers Steve, Tom was no exception. I'd imagine stuffing him into a Spit involved putting the seat in the lowest position and a lot of swearing. Much like me getting in an MGB with the hood up ;-)
...and like me squishing into SWMBO's poxy Mini Cooper.
