Glad you mentioned that too! I absolutely love The Cold Blue. It was shot in COLOR film and some of it even looks like it was shot yesterday, don’t you think?. It’s really something to see, among other things, those different color A-2 jackets in their native habitat (mostly russet). Even though it was shot in 16mm, for jacket enthusiasts this is priceless documentation. William Wyler was an absolute master and a fearless one at that. He risked his own life going on multiple missions to film it all. If fact, out of his 3 cinematographers, one was killed when his ship was shot down over St Nazaire (It was reported that he slipped out of his chute). This was real stuff and it’s rather eerie watching, in part, the work of someone who died creating it. If anyone is interested, you can see it for free on YouTube. You just have to ignore the Indonesian subtitles. Thanks for mentioning it!

Glad you mentioned that too! I absolutely love The Cold Blue.

It also streams on MAX if you have it.

Yes I love the fact that you get to see what original A2 jackets looked like in the spring of 1943 when the filming took place. As you said there are a number of shades of color to the jackets.
I own several five star A2 jackets. I have to say their colors, reddish brown and mid brown match up perfectly with the colors seen in the film the cold blue. Have not owned any of their other colors, Brandy brown or Visky so can’t speak to that.

When looking at aged original A2 jackets it’s impossible to get a real feel for how they originally looked in 1943. This film gives us a glimpse of that.

I have watched The Cold Blue to many times to count. There is a special on how they restored the film that Wyler shot. It included additional veteran interviews as well.
