After being advised that I would be wise to wear nomex while flying my Mustang, I purchased an Alpha CWU-45/P. A Cockpit Authentic MA-1, plus Cockpit CWU-55P, and an Alpha Vintage B-15 were already in my closet.
All of the jackets are size L, but the Alpha jackets run small.
G&B also made the one for President G.W. Bush. Cockpit USA claims to make the ones for the Navy. US Wings makes them for the Coast Guard, with side hand warmer pockets.
There are photos online that show The Blues wearing G-1's with obvious hand warmer pockets.
I have an A-2 from the same manufacturer. It is very well made. Yes, a modern copy of the G-1 or A-2 is fine for me. Not hung up on the "vintage detail" thing!
But today's G-1's do have the hand warmer pockets. Not a killer for me as I like this feature. Easy place to store car keys, etc.
The G-1's worn by the Blue Angels have these side entry pockets.
Looking at this G-1. It appears to be well made, from a U.S. manufacturer in Illinois. Good price at $400. It is made of 3.0 ounce calf skin.
Anyone here familiar with this jacket?
One of these will go on the back of my A-2. I have an artist in The Netherlands who is working with us on this project, and she is very excited with the subject material.
Seeking your input as to which would look best on the jacket. I'm not concerned with being absolutely correct in a historical...
A big thanks to artist Sean Collins on his latest effort for us. A P-51 Mustang silhouette with our nosebowl paint scheme. The A-2 is from Leather Coats Etc. A nice modern interpretation of the WWII classic.
Sean is a regular here, and I give him two thumbs up...way up!
Just got this Alpha G-1. A very nice jacket, perfect tailored military style fit (size M). Buttery soft black goatskin. Nicely made (Pakistan). $325, free shipping.
