Well a week from now the landscape will be pretty bleak. Going to get windy next week which will get rid of all the leaves. This is my favourite time of year. But a bit depressing because I know what comes next. Cold white shit for 5 plus months.

I’ve had a b-3,b-6 and Irvin over the years but they always end up as closet queens. I find them too restricted and bulky. And I haven’t flown through the winter months in many years. We do get some cold snaps, usually in January, where it goes down to -25 or so, but probably no more than a couple weeks of it. I’d say the average temperature for most of the winter is -5 ish.

I'd have thought an average winter temperature like that would be prime shearling weather but I can't argue with your reasons - if they don't work for you, they just don't.
Out of interest - what is your go to winter outerwear when it turns sub-zero like that?

Now that I’m retired I keep my ass in the house if I can. If I do have to go out and clean the driveway etc, I’ve got company issued cold weather gear from my airline days. Parka, insulated coveralls etc. I can recall a few nights on the ramp wearing long johns, insulated coveralls, and a parka, all together. Rare though. And when it happens, operations would slow to a crawl.

Nice. I know it's work but I'm sure some fun memories of being out in the elements like that. A solid (and I do mean solid) parka is arguably the best, most practical piece of winter kit anybody can own.

For sure. Wasn’t all misery. There were some exciting times. I can remember times when we were so cold we were laughing about it. It just seemed ridiculous to be out there. Sometimes that’s all you can do. Laugh it off.
