No jackets here for nearly a week. Whilst everybody in southern Europe is frying in 30 to 40 + Celsius temps we've been between mid to high 20s, which whilst balmy has meant no jacket have been needed.

If this keeps up (which it probably will because humans couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery when it comes to dealing with anything important) it's going to be a case of "Welcome to the Scandinavian Riviera" very shortly. Not that I'm complaining because in truth it's rather nice ;)

Too damn hot for jackets or windbreakers, even near the coast. Mostly mid-to-high 80s during the day, but "it's a dry heat", as we say.
So, to occupy my time in occupational therapy, where they usually don't let us have the sharp scissors, I've been delegated the responsibility of dressing dummies at the air museum.
I've chosen to go with pre-Pearl uniforms from the four branches posted at Pearl.
That would be the real 1st Sgt. Warden, in From Here to Eternity, on the left. Schofield Barracks, 19th Infantry Regiment, Hawaiian Division. I overpaid for the khaki jacket, but it went to a good cause, and I get a write off for the donation to the museum.
The Looey is Army Air Corps, 5th Composite Group, Luke Field, Ford Island, Hawaiian Department, known as the Pineapple Air Force on a site that I've been permanently banned from for having a pair and arguing back with a spineless weenie of an administrator.
The green braid on his cuff is Army reg for men who'd been active duty commissioned officers during the "World War". This fella went back to EM/Ranker, got promoted, and kept his EM jacket.
I wanted authentic wool felt shoulder insignia and chevrons, so I made those, as well as the service stripes on the Sgt.
Not exactly what I painted this weekend, or what I'm wearing.
Coming soon, the Navy white dress middy with blue cuffs and flap, same rating as McQueen in Sand Pebbles. USMC captain with pith helmet.
Cheers,
John
