Star again

Since I gave the GW Star to my son to use every time I see it on him I'm amazed at how it looks like a NOS original. The overdyed Shinki is perfect and the narrow epaulets and swooping collar look so Star-like. Stars are one of the only A-2s which had droopy shoulders often- as it ages this jacket's getting the exact right look.

Great looking jacket, ZuZu! And great fit on your son.

Can you tell me what leather was used to make it and if John did anything special to get the color? I really like how it came out!

It's Shinki leather which has been overdyed by John to a dull brown russet color. I asked him to uses relatively smooth and thick leather at least on the body panels. The Shinki will eventually give up the ghost and become floppy- it happened with a GW 27752 I've had for 3 years.

How does Shinki compare to Italian?

Mind sharing some photos/fit pics of that 27752 when you get a chance, Zu?

Got a 27752 order coming up next year with J.C and have been thinking Shinki.

Thanks for the information, ZuZu. I would have guessed that it was a seal color from how the photos show on my screen.

Could you also tell me what color are the knits?

That’s what I always thought was so cool about that contract - the most common color that it came in was this neat halfway point between seal and russet.

Actually the color is just a mid brown a bit on the light side. Most original Stars I've seen are not seal at all- apparently they did exist as that's the example in the Eastman book. My photos seem to make more "sealy" than is the case in real life. I bet it's very close in color to Burt's 48 which is mid brown.

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to describe with the phrase “halfway between seal and russet” - a very medium brown.
