Love that photo! You can actually see those heavy shells in flight. Nothing to me says Navy as much as these old ironclads. Too bad they are not still out on the high seas.

Just to prove that the UK had Armed Forces once. This was a very very young me in 1972 when I was in the Royal Air Force. Can't believe they let me play with the expensive stuff, but they did. The bottom picture is of me on a heli pad on top of a mountain in Hong Kong called Tai Mo Shan around 1973. We had some shh ... radar there.

Combat training mission sometime before Desert Storm, hand on the might .38

But that was earlier in my flying career; this was typical of most of my air time, a weather recon mission:

Way earlier in my career, checking the Instrument Landing System signals:

All: here's a photo of me as a USMC Corporal door gunner in Vietnam, 1969. M60 belt draped over the handhold is only for effect. the belts were fed from an ammo can bolted to the gun mount. shoulder holster is .38 pistol which probably WWI vintage. 40+ years went fast. bob

Okay. Glad to have the privilege of adding pics from my own service days. Here goes:

From my ANG days: though I wasn't a USAF pilot, I had a civilian pilot license, and since most of our pilots were airline pilots in civilian life and very bored with it all, they'd let me fly on the long trips. Here I am flying back to Channel Islands from Hickam. 1989.

And here I am getting ready to crank at NAS New Orleans. And people wonder why I joined the Air Force. 1989.

Heck - the photo wasn't even invented when I was in.
(Or maybe it was just so boring and waste of time, that nobody cared to take photos)

You should be able to spot me on horseback in the background - right side of the picture. Just over the Highland Regiment soldier.

Last week. About half way through the Blackhawk course at Ft. Rucker.

Great pic, Hobbstc,

Just can't resist the pun but keep flailing away at the course.

And a great thanks for serving.
