Sorry for the comment guys, that green leather always makes me want to hurl (any less tactful?) I guess not - sorry - flight jackets and VLJ rules!

I remember it was next to impossible to open and close the buttons. I used to get a lot of compliments when I wore it CBI before I sold it to Mikeandpat. I'm too sexy for this shirt, I'm too sexy for...
I found that with my A1 and B2. The hide is too thick and tough. I can't imagine the originals were like that. They'd be knackered before they even got to fly never mind shoot down the enemy !
Here's another one. Some has obviously started saving for Xmas !

 The label on that A-1 is ridiculous! It's basically the B-2 label with the "Jacket, Winter, Flying, Type B-2" cut off of it. Lost Worlds must have run out of correct labels or something...

Whether the AAC in its A-1/B-2 era would ever have shot down a hypothetical enemy is an open (if moot) question. If the Canadians got any ideas about taking back Detroit, we'd probably be talking about Selfridge Field today in the same tones as we do Hickam or Clark.

As for LW, I've concluded Stu's target markets really are a) cyclists, b) the fetish community, and c) guys who stand around a lot trying to look tough.

I do not ride (excepting bicycles), I never stand if I can sit down, and my fetishes run in a different direction (see Charisse, Cyd). But I am looking forward to hearing my B-2 laugh at winter in Iowa.

The pictures I've seen of the Warehouse A1 were never very good, here's some that are a little better. The leather looks pretty good IMO. Destinctive features are buttons at the waistband instead of snaps, 6 buttons up the main body, no loops/buttons on the collar (why?), underarm gussets, 1 piece backs, 2 piece sleeves, pockets set up higher than the waistband stitches. oh, and the common features = expensive! :D

Looks OK, but the biggest size is 42. I know there are some bigger Japanese than that, how do they cope ? All these great jackets that are too small.

Is it possible the makers are willing to ignore part of their own market so as not to draw interest from the West?

I don't think so ... they make what they can sell.

The Few offers up to size 46, but the Japanese retailers don't order them. Likewise BR are happy to make the larger sizes, if they get orders from ELC, or HPA.

to bump this thread... here's an interesting variation on the A-1. It's Buzz Rickson's flight instructor's jacket, though from what we've discussed perhaps a "varsity" collar would have been more appropriate? to go along with the higher pockets, anyway I kind of like it.. what do ya'll think? :

It's nice - presumably a copy of a civilian jacket that an instructor happened to use rather than an issued jacket - though I'd prefer it without the USN on the back. Some of the non-military jackets from Buzz/Style Eyes/Sugar Cane are actually more appealing to me than their repro flight jackets.

..... and I liked the earlier version, without the leather sleeves. Rufus bought one 'on tour', and posted it on old VLJ.
