Oh yea, your so right - I never noticed how much darker it seems in those pics of John wearing it, the darker knits probably add to that a bit too. Just a great looking A1, done right !!

Doug the cape John using is JUST OUTSTANDING. I'm getting one in the fall and John sent me a swatch that I sent on to Van. I'm sure that Van has a similar opinion.

Yep...I do. Thanks to Allen...this is the first Capeskin that I've seen upclose. Soft and flexible with a nice finish. It's easy to see why it drapes so nicely. The antiqued brown color is indeed quite nice. Perfect for an A1 IMO.

Trying to appeal to Joe Sixpack, I guess.

Thanks for the heads-up b, but I'll let this one pass.

We've probably been through this before in this topic alone but are the US Authentic A-1 jackets really not worthy of consideration or are they an acceptable entry level jacket?

Is their goatskin just not right for this jacket type?

I also grabbed this pic from an earlier post - is there any A-1s made with this type of tapered collar or was this a civil version?

Well almost, the U.S.Navy equivalent, the leather 37J1 has that collar. It has the high breast pockets, but is otherwise identical to the picture.

I think goatskin would be fine for an A-1, but then what do I know?

Bill,

As per Miles Archer, the one you refer is most likely a civilian garment. On page one and two of this thread, you will find two custom made US Authentic A-1s, both in goatskin. Their vintage russet goatskin is thin and lightweight. I prefer the G&B knits. Source the buttons as well, and you've got yourself an affordable (approx. $500) and cool jacket.
