A "mint" jacket from the flea

Yeh. Definitely ultra mint. It got through quality control because the guy was in his lunchbreak! BTW. This is not the first time the seller has had this on Ebay.

Well done! I guess being in Spain it was more trouble than it was worth for Steve to have new knits put on, but maybe you're better located for such a job. In the end you'll either have a nice keeper or should be able make a few quid if you decide to resell.

Hi, Peter:
Yes. Well done. Some new knits and you have a pretty cool jacket. I don't know the seller, but reading in the very broad white spaces written here, I too, hope your jacket arrives. The guy sounds sketchy at best. Keep us posted.

Bevan, I've used Aero for all my knit replacements. They are very reasonable and the quality of work and materiels is fantastic. From what I gather, Eastman are much more expensive and the waiting time is longer.

And from what I've seen, Aero do a better job, too. Way to go, Peter, like to see that when it's done.

Great Score Peter! What a great looking jacket with so much potential. To guide you on your way for the jacket's knit replacements I have included some pics of this same jacket as seen on John Chapman's flight jacket CD. As explained by John, this is one of the more rare 55J14 jackets out there. Not to mention, as compared it does not appear as your new jacket has even been broken in yet  !

Now for the big question, as I am wondering if the seller is going to live up to the other end of the bargain, is he going to include that great Korean War squadron patch with the sale? That patch alone has got to be worth more than what you paid for this jacket! I can not wait to see the finished product. So please keep us advised :D as the events transpire.

Cheers, Dave

He'd better, it's part of the deal, bargain or not. Thanks for the pics Dave. I did have Johns CD but a while ago my wife "tidied" it away and I haven't seen it since. Those look like standard knits so it should be no problem for Aero to replace them. Today I recieved a notification from ebay that the jacket had been shipped, which is a good sign. Unfortunately I'm going away tomorrow till next Wednesday so there will be no updates till then.

Well, it arrived and is as described, although to say it would fit a size 40 is pure bullshit. The patch is a beauty. I've had no experience of painted patches so I've no idea if it's original or not but my gut feeling tells me that it is. I'll post pics in the patches section soon for an experts opinion. It'll be off to Aero after the weekend for new knits. I'll post pics when it returns but I expect a long wait this time of year. Maybe ole Steve is on the straight and narrow at last !
