What jacket(s) are you wearing at the moment?

Hello,

Today it's another combo of nylon that I like to match, it's Buzz rendition of Albert Turner N-3B and Superior togs L-2A. It's getting mild here in Mtl but winter flight jackets are still appreciated in the cold. I try to pick my repros based on accuracy and those nylons kits are really nice, not all of them, but Buzz and especially RM did some pretty good recreations in the pass.

It has turned quite mild here (+13C or so with a moderate breeze yesterday) so I thought I'd see how my newly arrived Aero Black fleece Irvin worked out with just a long sleeve base layer for a walk in the countryside with a friend yesterday. It proved to be quite a comfortable temperature with the jacket zipped up midway though my friend did suggest I'd got the colour just right to match her Fox Terriers ears (I'll save you the pics).

I hope you are just listening to the purr of a purrfectly tuned 2 litre side valve and not something wrong somewhere down in the bowels, mine used to give a little sort of sigh on tickover now and again but never let me down in 40 years apart from sometimes having to start with the handle when the 6v battery had decided it had had enough, As you may detect I'm having jeep loss syndrome esp as the sun is shining today , but too many old cars is much worse than too many jackets, storage wise and it went to a good home where it is being loved and cared for.

No just tickling the lift pump to prime the carb as she had stood a while since last she was last started so nothing untoward.

I've had numerous old classic toys over the years but sold my last MB about 21 years ago when my then one year old son became a chore to carry safely in it. I always regretted letting that old bus go as it had carried numerous veterans around their old haunts but family harmony had to come first. There followed a a few years of stability with something not quite so old but still a classic but this time with doors during which time the sprog was joined by a sister ...and they both grew up. The regret at selling the last Jeep never went away so I made some room in the garage and started hunting for a decent Jeep ....and that took quite a while ...boy there is some over priced Cr@p around! I finally found this one, the chap who was selling it ticked all the boxes so a deal was struck and the bank balance took a hit. But she' a lovely, genuine old thing who spent all her postwar life with one family in California - only crossing the Atlantic having been bought by the chap I got her from a very few years ago. She even retains the paperwork from when she was sold from the military in 1946 ...and all the numbers still match. Happy days :)

I see no ship's, only hardships

GW Star, Hawes & Curtis shirt, Hoggs of Fife moleskin trousers, one old bloke wearing them.

JC kindly told me this was the second Star he ever made and that was way back in 2009. The light russet Shinki is lovely. This one is staying but I'm going to thin out some of my very well broken in repro A-2's that no longer fit.

When I look at JC work, Star Sportswear is the one I fancy the most, it's the shape of the pocket flaps and over all style that pings my attention. The Aero comes pretty close too cause I love Crown hardware and have a NOS waiting for a go....

Yours is very,very nice!

Thanks Dany. I had outgrown it and actually had it up for sale for a bit but fate took a hand, I had a dramatic loss of weight fairly recently but having regained some under doctor's orders it now fits a treat. The patch is one of mind and my homage to a good friend who served with the 600 Sqdn, 398th BG. In fact the whole surviving crew became good friends to my family and I, but sadly they have all passed now.

Micawber, you always bring this special touch of having a connection with the past through objects, places or actual people/veterans and I enjoy reading your anecdotes.

I'd like to ask how did veterans that were there react to such an homage?

Oh, and you look in really good shape, hope it's for a long time!

Dany.

That's very kind of you Dany thank you. Sadly it was only after the passing of this particular chum that I had the urge to create a few patches based on an original that I was given by another member of the crew. Some years before they said they were chuffed that I had framed the original patch with a photo of the crew and hung it on the wall. I knew at the time we were in such a privileged position to get to meet all these people, especially when the rest of the non retired world was slogging away at the 9 - 5. In subsequent years it has hit very hard to see and learn of them fading from us.

I must say that you look about 10 years younger without the white beard. Not sure you’ll agree but I think clean shaven is a good look for you .
Cheers mate .
