Sniping's no good anymore.

Thanks guys, tonight was sorta like Xmas morning for me. I 'won' the Sefton A-2 I'd bid on. I had to leave for the evening so I just entered my highest offer. The last bid had been sitting at the same amount for the last 4 days with no other bidders. At the last moment a couple of snipers took their shot, and they came in way under my maximum bid. I'm guessing the jacket went for so little was because it had a painted back and glue residue on the shoulders from patches being removed, which is okay by me since I plan on patching over the residue anyway. I just hope the size isn't too small. A-2 sizing varies so much by manufacturer, and sizing even varies by the manufacturer depending on the contract type they're making.

Well to "snipe" or not to "snipe" is up to the individual. Yes it keeps you "invisible", but all it does is use your broadband connection to put you highest bid in, in the last 5 - 6 seconds, thus ensuring if manual bidding is going on that at least you get a shot at the item............

I had a person from overseas with a nice MA-1/L-2B early 50's makers take my $100 bid and end the auctions early or cancel my bid an hour before it ended, only to re-list the item a few days later at over $500.00!! I reported him to eBay, they did nothing.

Most automated bids are server based, not from your own computer. Typically people set it at 2 seconds but on the busy periods like sunday evening it's better to give 4-5 seconds.

A seller can't end a listing less than 12 hours before the end of the listing if the item has a winning bid.
The seller may cancel bids, but not end the item unless they are selling the item to the high bidder.

I understand they come from a server not your computer, didn't mean to make that mistake, it is still a fast bidding process. Especially is some poor guy is still using dial up.

And, I have the auction saved that this guy ended early. It was 2 hours 38 minutes to go, he canceled my bid, then the auction disappeared. With a simple screen that said the item # XXXXXXXXX was no longer available.

Then it re-appeared 2 days later. One for a starting bid of $500. The other with a starting bid for $125.00. I thought hey the guy must have not finished the sale so I bid $125.00 and guess what....he ended it early again, this time about 3 days early.

Anyways, I just get real tired of trying to bid in accordance to the policies, snipe or no snipe, and someone ends the auction early due to some high priced buy it now that I as the bidder did not even get a chance to bid on. and, yes I do put my highest amount I am willing to pay when I open bid. but how would the seller know that when he ends it early to someone with a buy it now?

Oh, well......Happy bidding!
