Clint Eastwood model.
Yes, 8 3/8", first real gun I bought, at a gun show in Baton Rouge in 1990. Childhood dream to own a "Dirty Harry" gunAs far as I can tell, it's an 8 3/8" barrel 629.
They only used the 8.375" barrel 29 for publicity stills. The movie model was 6.5" -- a model that wasn't available long, replaced by a chintzy 6" model.Clint Eastwood model.
I used to bring mine (6.5") to bowling pin shoots at the local range -- great fun. They had a moment of popularity until everyone realized the impractical aspect of it.
Ah "not a smidgen of play"! I'm for reliability! AKs and Glocks. Don't like guns that need to be babied- ARs and Lugers are both in that category. It's a lot of fun to shoot and very accurate. What's really impressive is taking it apart and seeing that there is not a smidgen of play with any of the parts. Very impressive firearm for sure and can't believe that someone sold it to me for $70 about ten years ago.
Never had an opportunity, but I was never afraid either.Bears I guess ya. Lol.

I also used to carry it in bear country when I hiked around my grandparents' place in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Thing is accurate as hell.
