Rare larger ELC A-1 (size 48) on EBay

Unusually short arms for a size 48. An ELC thing or is it just that Meanbasil can't use a tape measure?

The arms look a little on the short side - with the exception of my .50 cal, all of the sleeves of my ELC A-1s have been comparatively long.

Too big for me I'm afraid......I'll probably try on an A1 at the ELC tent at Legends in July to get the correct sizing but I guessing it's going to be either 44" or 46" depending on the jacket fit.

FWIW, my 46 has slightly short sleeves, more noticeable due to their taper. I assume you can get sleeves to order - mine, like all my jackets, is secondhand.

I've been looking for this jacket in this size,, but the sleeves are way too short...

Then what we have here is obviously a style that appeals mostly to really short guys. Discuss?

I wish someone would make a less blousey pattern. There is always way to much loose stuff in the waist for me so I have given up on this style.

That's what's worried me too. I thought the A-1 was supposed to be trim in the torso, at least thats how originals look in shots. Is Johns a better pattern? I presume ELC would make a long fitting if ordered?

There's a variety of silhouettes in the period shots (like the A-2 really). Some are very short and fitted (like a sleeved waistcoat) and this is well proportioned with the jodhs/boots, whereas others are quite long and blousy.

ELC offer the option of short, regular and long - Alan's A-1 was a custom short order, I've had both regular and long versions (the difference is less than an inch though I think).

So which is your current preference Ian, GW or ELC? From your previous comments (and my GW bias) I would go with a GW.

I'm not crazy about the Cape sample Vickie sent me last year, but there is a version of goat that almost looks like HH I love.... (i'm not in the market just now but for future reference)
