I think I would prefer VAT--too many all nighters and blood pressure spikes when trying to fill out the 1040 long form. Just collecting the various documents for the liabilities and deductions is a major pain in the rear! Now I may have to double the length of my form because of government/Ebay misguided avarice.

Unfortunately VAT tends to be as well as regular income tax.
