I suspect the seller is a westerner not a Thai. Out of interest why is your name "Shanghai Joe", surely that is China not Thailand or S/E Asia.

I was born in Penang, an island, part of Malaysia.

Penang is an island off neighbouring Thailand.

Malaysia is part of South-East Asia.

I was born in HK New Territory which is actually on the Mainland China not HK island which was lease to Britain for 99 years. As it goes HK island was ceded to Britain after the Opium War and Thatcher initially refuse to handover that part but China demanded complete handover and paid huge amount of cash plus military/economic threat. I have lived in the UK for over 30 years but have gone back to HK, not notice any changes. My grandfather on my father's side was from Shanghai, successful businessman but lost it all during the Japanese invasion. Grandfather on my mother's side probably from Guangzhou was a carpenter but taken into custody by Japanese soldiers prior to a bombing/invasion by the Japs. I wonder if he was a victim of Japanese reprisal after the Doolittle Raid as it was so close to that time? He appear to have been singled out. Anyway I suppose you can say I am not so fond of the Japanese.

by the way Penang, Malacca and Singapore were part of the British colonies........

For now, I'm thinking they're sort of worthless.

I agree, no labels, fake artwork. Worthless, apart from the zippers.

Peter the jacket I bought is a United Sheeplined. Yes it would be worth more with the original label. But were I to re-sell and explain about the artwork I am sure there are people out there who would pay far more than I paid for it. Does that really make it worthless?

Agree with Andrew. A label is important but not to the point without it would render the jacket worthless. Would someone call a high end repro like John Chapman, ELC, etc as worthless because I personally consider a good condition wearable original without manufacturer's label, insignia, artwork, etc, is worth a bit more than its modern counterpart.

For me it's really an issue of taste, not money. Value isn't soley determined by what folk might pay for something. Take teachers for example - horribly underpaid but of great value.

Personally I think the fake artwork and lack of label make it fairly worthless historically. This is just my opinion. I would not buy it but if you can re-sell it for a profit then fair play to you.
