And while we are in rant mode again: VLJ is soooo freaking slow in the evening, I limit myself to attend only at European daytime... Trying to get into a conversation or - God beware - looking at photos is simply a waste of screen time.

It wasn't always that way, but our wifi is quite reliable and fast these days, so the flaw must be at VLJ...

Ties is illustrating his point. :p

That is an issue that I don’t think we have any control over, as it likely has to do with server issues of our host. I think we’d have to switch hosts, unfortunately. But @Nathan Flowers would know better than me.

I just had an idea thought, sort of a stop-gap measure, provided that Nathan says the slowness in Europe is out of our control. More soon - watch the skies. ;)

For what it’s worth Jan - everything running nice and smoothly here U.K side, haven’t noticed any lag at all!

No real speed issues with VLJ in my part of the UK either. Funny you should mention watching the skies Jan as that is just what a small group of us were doing this evening as it was a lovely clear night with everything up in the heavens looking clean and sparkly. with lots satellites of visible tracking over too.

At least we thought they were satellites....

For the love of Mike powers-that-be just put a halt on new member sign-ups for a month or two. These spammer prats will move somewhere else sharpish once they can't easily sign up here.
You're trying to second-guess their MO like they're people. They're not - they're bots. It's pretty much all automated. If you shut down admissions to the VLJ for a month, then the day you open back up again is the day the bots will start posting again. As has been posted elsewhere, this kind of spam has been hitting web forums everywhere. The Fedora Lounge has the same problem, according to Nathan.

Sorry Jan, but I'm not certain they will come back, if they're getting blocked over a significant length of time the algorithms they're using will go to other sites.

The reason why VLJ is getting hit multiple times everyday is because they're not getting blocked or locked out. If we stopped admissions, these bots will blackflag this site and move onto another site.

I don't see any issues on the servers. The next time it's acting slow, could you try using your mobile device off the wifi and see if it's also slow?

Two more reported. Is it actually worth the time typing out and reporting? I mean really? There has been little decrease in spam attacks it seems so one can assume little has been done in tweaks to the software to counter the dross.
