a quick Q: If it is termed as an ANJ3a, why make it in a civilian style - label, zipper ?

Whats being made is a AN-J-3 leather collar, based on a Monarch Civilian design, hence the Monarch label and more civilian style zipper. The AN-J3a comes into it purely as reference for the pattern. Dave has Colt's jacket and used its pattern in conjunction with other related patterns he has, in order to ascertain which part of each pattern would better suit my lanky size 40 frame.

The finished product. Dave completed it over the weekend and sent some pics. I think the photos speak for themselves, top work in my opinion.

Wow, stating the obvious but that's blooming nice! Maybe a bit new and shiney but with a little wear and creasing etc it'll only get better if that's possible. A pat on back and we'll done that man, I'd be very proud to have created that!!

The purple knits really set the color of the jacket off very nicely. That’s a quality jacket if there ever was one. Congrats to the maker and the new owner.

Well.. its finally on its way, can't wait to see and wear it, last of the photos on USA soil before its hits the Great Southern Land. Just look at that stitching...

Yeah Burt, wasn't sure how the purple was going to work with the leather, but it really lifts it along with the lining. The leather looks pretty thick and rich too. Dave said the leather is thick, should be a nice warmer jacket than the standard USN m422's

That's one of the finest jackets I've seen around here.
When I see a new jacket like this, I always wonder what this jacket will look like and where it will be 70 years from now.
Most people don't think about things like that, but I've always liked the history of the A2's I collect, and I'm sure that back during WWII no one ever thought that the jacket they were wearing would outlive them and take on a life of its own.
Congrats on your new AN-J3 ,Wear it in good health my friend!:)

Hi All,

For those interested I have included some pix of the same original 20570 contract AN-J-3A Monarch belonging to Ens. John Z. Colt Jr. used to pattern Matt's jacket here http://www.vintageleatherjackets.org/threads/sheeley-built-usn-jacket.21093/ .

That Colt Monarch jacket has an incredibly rich War history. Unlike most USN type jackets used during WW-2 this particular jacket was in fact combat worn.

Cheers, Dave

Looks like getting things from overseas is not going to be as easy for us Down under as it once was. Our so called government, has imposed more red tape and paper filing to catch the likes of those who abuse the system. In actual affect all it seems to be doing is making more work for all the parties involved and shredding more trees for the paper that will need to be filled out and then no doubt digitally stored.

Dave's jacket is caught in the customs loop while I'm frantically trying to fill out forms and tick all the boxes so Australia post can get on with its job of posting letters and parcels.

FRUSTRATING

Feel your pain Matt... Good luck and let us know how you get on. I'm sure it will be well worth it once you have it in-hand!

Thanks mate, no doubt your right. Nevertheless the archaic form of the new system is prehistoric rather than streamlined smooth. One can only come to one conclusion if things go missing...

I do believe I'm carping on somewhat...

No, no... You have reason. I almost kicked kittens on the way back from picking up my Headwind after the hefty customs fee I paid... And the mission to find the depot to collect and pay for the jacket.
I know there are a few guys who have had some grief with either postal services and/ or customs duties of late. Its becoming harder and harder for me personally, to justify ordering a jacket from anywhere but EU nowadays. Thats another reason I decided fork out for my ELC... If I worked out International postage and imports duties (and post office hassle) and took that off the price I paid, it worked out 'reasonable' (pre-price increase mind you). I think Thomas was having issues with post orifice also.

And you had better get those EU orders in before the wall lickers put a hard Brexit in place (to save their overseas investment funds)...as the smooth delivery will be a thing of the past.
