"I have been informed by a potential buyer that this is an early Eastman jacket made of Merino sheepskin, a rare item. This jacket was purchased 18 - 20 years ago"

this jacket has been up for sale before and flagged. I guess it either didnt sell the first time 'round or its being re-sold by its new owner.

Well, I've done it now. I persuaded the seller to offer BIN for $700.
I checked the sellers dimensions, one being the length from the centre seam at the back to the cuff as 34 in. It's exactly the same as my new 44.
It could be that this was such an early jacket that the pattern was out or that the jacket was even mislabelled.
If I'm wrong then it will be an expensive mistake, but I've made these before.

Well aren't you the dream customer? :)

But it does look good, and since the early ELC A-2's were larger fitting, there's a good chance it will work.

Good Luck !!

Thanks David.
I was only being selfish with the BIN thing.
If it's right, $700 is cheaper than persuading the tannery to buy a container of Australian Merino specially for me.

Aaaaaahhhh..

Makes sense....(40).....kind of....

If it's too small then it will make no sense, that's my concern. But the dims. suggest a very large size 40, more like a 42.
34 inches from the back seam to cuff is quite large.
Fingers crossed.

So with that back seam to cuff measurement, the seller is measuring the sleeve length, as you would a shirt. That's shorter than my 40 Buzz B-3 (I haven't got an Irvin here to measure), and it's the same as my Few D-1, but that jacket's much narrower in the shoulders.

Comparing with recent production size 42 ELC Irvin measurements, the shoulder is about the same ... the chest is 2" narrower, as you would expect.

Measurements taken: From back of jacket across from one shoulder seam to another shoulder seam: 20 1/4" From back of jacket across from one armpit to the other armpit: 23" From seam running vertically down the center of the back of the jacket to the end of the sleeve: 34 1/4"

It's very similar in size to my size 44 ELC RAF. The back seam to cuff is exactly the same.
If it is too small then I will simply have to sell it.
While I was in American classics trying on jackets with Gary, he and his mate both thought I was a 42 not a 44. So if this is a large 40 then there is still hope.

Yes, it appears to be the same as a 42 in the shoulders, and sleeve length ... so if you can live with the narrower chest it should work out fine.

Do you ship to New Zealand?

David,
Are you serious ?
If it doesn't fit I will sell it, and yes I would ship to NZ. I am on a quest for THE Irvin, this may be it but if it isn't then I will keep trying.
Here is a pic. of the best jacket I ever owned. I bought it from Garcia Aviation, unfortunately I had a hole in the shoulder panel so I returned it. I should have kept it and had it repaired.

That looks nice - can we have a bigger pic?
Good luck with the ELC - at least you'll have no problems shifting it if it doesn't work out ( Not a hint BTW, it's too small for me!)
