For HLB Corp. A-2 owners or ...what's so special about the sleeve construction of the 37 contract?

i notice that the underside of the sleeve appears to taper towards the cuff from the armpit rather than being parallel , just looking at the HLB pictured in the Eastman book. not sure if other contracts do that too

I have checked the pics in Gary's identification manual and on JC's website.

One can get the impression that a) the sleeves were cut roomier, b) the outside seam starts closer to the shoulders, c) the sleeve's back panel seems to be narrower towards the cuff than on other contracts.

So, @YoungMedic ...we seem to see the same :)

and if allowed to see the full length of the sleeve it may even be slightly diamond shaped tapering again towards the armpit, <> this is common in tactical or athletic cut utility pants and shirts but might be advanced for traditional jacket construction techniques

So I’m guessing that since no one is currently making a repro HLB A2, and with some detailed questions being asked, that maybe one might be on the 5 Star drawing board in the near future???:)

Burt,

You know that Shawn's eager to offer whatever his customers want. So yes, somebody (not me) has probably planted the idea...

Personally, I think it would be an impossible challenge to build something so rare and special.... He obviously can't get his hands on an original jacket to make convincing patterns, the hardware is different, it's not a jacket that seems to be on everybody's wish list...

I appreciate any effort to offer something special, but honestly: to wear an HLB Corp. repro that is based on photos and not on actual patterns is a little bit like wearing the repro of a luxury watch that exists, but only as a single figure limited edition.... Everybody knows that yours is "fake"...

I wouldn't totally put it past Shawn to acquire an original (he got that early Werber after all), but I agree: without an original there's not much point in trying to reproduce that contract.

Well... the HLB is still on JC's order form...

(checked for a friend )

Yup, at present JC's the only source for this contract, unless you can scrounge a used Eastman.

I agree with both of you guys. I missed the boat in purchasing an ELC HLB a few years ago and now they are no longer available. Previously owned size 46s are impossible to find and those who have them are holding on to them. I was sort of hoping that 5 Star might have acquired an original, but as you guys pointed out …. thats a mission impossible task.

Here's my old Eastman HLB. Sorry for the HBT USMC frogskin shorts, but too damn hot for denim or khaki! The sleeve construction is cut slightly wider throughout compared to later contracts. Most notable is the longer cut to the torso and a slightly roomier chest and shoulders. Overall it's an outstanding reproduction of this early contract. Also the knits and lining Gary used in this contract are far super to the other tip tier repro makers.

Attached are pics of my HLB that JC made for me 6 years ago.

The last time that I talked to Charles DiSipio about Eastman
resurrecting their HLB, he hoped that it may come in late
2022 (no promises).

That’s a beauty. Are these photos recent or were they taken at the time of purchase?
If they were, could you post some recent ones to see how the jacket has aged over the last 6 years please?

What's the size on that one?

And the hide, for that matter.
