Hi,

I returned from my holidays in Seattle / Vancouver just yesterday....and thought of torturing you with some pictures.

Yes, I got some new leather from the master himself! John was so kind to meet the Mrs. and me at the Museum of Flight, where we were given a private tour by our forum member Stony.....

Here we are, sporting our GW jackets....

Stony, who used to work for the museum, is giving us some insider information...

My new jacket in the pictures is a seal brown HH Dubow 20960....the new HH is absolutely awesome, and the adjusted pattern with my measurements looks and wears just great.

I'll post some more pictures in the next days....oh, and I will post some of the new GW AERO 21196, too :D

Christmas came early this year!

And thanks to Stony and John the trip to Seattle got really special:

John, you are not only the master of flight jackets but one of the nicest guys I have ever met. It is just great to meet somebody who is so enthusiastic about his profession without being nerdy. Carola and I had a so much fun and we really appreciated that you spent your time to meet with us!

Stony, thanks for giving us the private tour! It was really great to get information first hand from someone who knows the Museum of Flight from A to Z. Meeting you was great and Carola and I hope you had some fun, too...We had a terrific time!

Looks like fun and VERY cool jackets. Agreed, Chapman is VERY enthusiastic about his craft which is one of the many reasons the product is so great!

Lucky Ties !!

Looks like you had fun. I'm envious. Was a bit concerned at first as you mentioned your 'wife' but there wasn't a lady to be seen and you only mentioned Stony further down. ;)

I wonder if anyone might have the temerity to mention Stony's 'tunnelling' as to some here it is a crime. Doesn't seem to be giving Stony a problem though, does it ? Maybe that is more to do with who is involved and which make of jacket it is ............. Personally I think they all look ACE .

Stony is wearing one of John's jacket (John had several examples in the back of his car) while his own jacket (a GW Bronco in GS) remained in the car.

Strange....I see a very nice looking Lady...as well as great looking jackets.
Too bad we gotta have that derogatory jacket maker dig slipped in again...as usual. I guess there's supposed to be some slight humor somewhere.
However..looks like good times,Ties....and that you enjoyed your stay in the USA.
Thanks for the pics!

Beautiful jackets- makes me envious. I'm in line for one of these 20960's since the first of July. I hope to have it WHENEVER!(maybe as a Christmas present). The time frame you guys talk about certainly isn't what John talks about, but IT IS WHAT IT IS - busy man & lots of people lined up. Still, can't wait to proudly post personal accolades. My dad, God rest his soul, would have appreciated it, out as well as in the cockpit.

Hi, Ties:
What a great trip! John is the nicest guy on the planet, as you know. As many times as I have been to Seattle over the years, including the half-decade I lived there, I've never been to the Flight Museum. Next summer, for sure! Stony, lunch is on me, if you'll give the arm-waving tour.

Your jacket is spectacular, Ties. In color, out in the bright sunshine--Wow! I'm happy with my russet goat Dubow, but that seal HH has got all of my salivary glands working overtime.

Thanks for the pics. You've been to one of the best places in the States on this trip, in my NVHO (Never Very Humble Opinion), and caught some of the best weather in Seattle history in the bargain! Well done, Ties.

Great trip Ties, what a treat. Your jacket looks sensational, thanks for these excellent shots (it must take John hours to leave the house.. "now which one will I wear today?")

This must have been one hell of a trip and certainly one to remember. Nice to have a mrs, who happily trails along, probably smiling at our little hobby, but giving you slack enough at the same time! Mine is like that too.
And if Tom James is wondering how come there is a difference between John's quotes on delivery time and the actual period, here you see one reason, or so I think. And I applaud John for it.

Thanks for the pictures! A Dubow 20960 in the new seal HH is exactly what I'm getting, so I'm really glad to see how wonderful yours looks. I put my order in in March, so I think and hope it'll be in the actual production line soon. Living on the other end of the country, though, I won't have the pleasure of meeting John in person, unfortunately.

Van, if that's a pop at me then I'd like to address it. I wasn't having a DIG at John. Nor have I ever had a pop at him. I like the guy, admire what he's doing and think his latest jackets look fantastic. But he did have a learning curve to go through which was to be expected.

The pops have always been at those who have shouted that his jackets are the only ones to have and then ended up selling their 'Fantastic' jackets only to buy John's next evolution to say that that marque is the best and all others are crap. To then do the same thing again. Also at those obsessed with the 'look' who sneer at someone with a jacket with the tunnelling whilst usually using that to have a pop at some maker other than John. They are pretentious pratts. There might also in some cases be the attitude that because John is american, that his jackets must therefore be the best. I do think that John's jackets are amongst the best money can buy but not necessarily the best value for the difference in details - especially for a non-US buyer. The tunnelling thing couldn't be a pop at John as sizing to me isn't a maker issue - it's about body types.

Lastly, if my dry, English sense of humour upsets your american sensibilities or flies above or below your radar, well, I make no apologies for that. You might 'get it' better if you were more familiar with Brits. Certainly our senses of humour are miles apart - probably about 3,500 miles and 220 years apart :D

Well..you've managed to do it again to someone else's thread about Goodwear. Trivial reasons for sure...but then your bitterness must most always be inserted reguardless. Now it's progressed to a Brit/American thing for you to kick around. Shameful...indeed.

Van,
I give up. I'm not the bitter one here. Your outlook on life does you no credit.

Whatever, bit of tunneling I can handle. Zips that break and knits that wear out in weeks after spending a small fortune-we will leave that to your side of the pond.

Tell em Van!

Deary me ...........................................

BTW Van, it's Good Wear and not Goodwear. On this forum the devil is in the detail :D

Don't sweat it Wing: you've never been a tunnelling critic nor a 'look' OCD kinda guy so I'm suprised you feel included in my poke. As for your dig at Eastman or Aero, you're entitled to your opinion. As am I. Durability is something JC's jackets have yet to prove - although I'm sure they will pass that test in the same way that the originals didn't - like Eastman and Aero. Remember that originals were a fairly cheap, down and dirty working garment and if the original spec could have used a more durable material than wool, they would have. Same with the zippers. These repros are supposed to have the same drawbacks as the original garments as Gary says quite clearly on his website. Oh, and it should be "Tell HIM Van". Don't be confused into thinking my opinions speak for all Brits on here. They obviously don't.

And to the member who deleted his PM to me before I got a chance to read it - shame on you for not having the courage of your convictions. This is only a forum and if you thought my sensibilities were going to be hurt by what anyone in this place says to me you are very mistaken

Please let's not turn this into a US Vs UK thing. It's only jackets forchristsake.

I might suggest that you open a new specific "The Dangers of GoodWear" thread..where you can then list all of your greviances against those that dare act like "pratts". Perhaps even,if willing, compare the GW actual details to ELC..Aero...RMNZ..and others..along with originals in a more fruitful discussion after/if your antiGWprattowners fever subsides. Spelling and certain phrases can be corrected all in one disagreeable thread. Also, hopefully, then there would be little need to add the normal quips and implications to anyone's "New GoodWear" thread. Those new GW owners can finally share the joy of thier new jacket in an atmosphere free of what is displayed above. If any member desires to know the dangers..they can click on the "GW danger" thread...if they dare. If they are very brave..they could even post as well...!

Two individuals seperated by a common language :D

Never in the field of jacket collecting has one individual been SO misunderstood by another !

However, if someone could point out where I have bashed any particular maker or named any particular person and poured scorn on them, I'd appreciate it. I find it particularly funny that someone who I would never in my wildest dreams have scorned for any reason seems to have taken the greatest offence. Could that person be a secret 'tunneller' ?

No wonder all bar 3 of the serious jacket collectors have gone. Discourse and debate have been replaced with one doctrine of sychophancy.
