Cheers guys. I have a hankering to get the shoulder decal put on (by ELC) before the weather gets colder

I did not go for the decal as the RW, though fictional should be something like an early B-6 and I was unsure if those early jackets had the decals applied already...does anybody know when those decals were introduced?

Personal choice. And personally i am not worried about “authenticity” when it comes to modern repros. If it ain’t original, it ain’t authentic. Therefore the definition is for each person to define.

I think it’s £19+ p&p which might seem steep. But when you realise i’ll send it in a reinforced plastic bag and get it back in a proper Eastman box for the jacket (which i don’t have as i bought it 2nd hand), i’m more than happy

Apart from great customer service from Eastman, it saves me a fortune in posting to them as a box for the jacket pushes you into ParcelFarce territory and high shipping for an oversize parcel .

Thats another big advantage of collecting originals... very hard to track and trace ;-)
Funny thing Brice, my wife asked me directly today how much the jacket cost. I told her i wasn’t going to tell her and to guess. She was bang in the money !!

You hear all these new fangled things about putting it in the dryer with tennis balls, washing it, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.
Personally I think all of that is a lot of hooey. The best thing to make a jacket develop proper, good looking wear that actually looks real is...surprise surprise!...to wear it.
Wear it and most importantly don't bloody baby it. Sleep on the sofa in it, throw it into a corner when you take it off. Don't lie it down all gently like a delicate orchid, boot it unceremoniously into the corner. Sit on it, let the cat sleep on it. Wear it outside in all weather. One of the best ones is to carry firewood when wearing it. Those kinds of chaps who nearly have a fit if somebody is having a kebab within 10 feet of their beloved jackets will probably get the vapours about that, but seriously lifting firewood is great. Do some work in the garden in it, muck around with the car or boat whilst wearing it.
Wear it and for heaven's sake don't baby it or worry too much about it.

I know Steve (& Tim) but i work in an office 06:00-18:00 5 days a week and with the mild winters we get, it’ll only get worn 4 months of the year. I can’t give the jacket the amount of wear i’d like. I don’t want HWT or other silly techniques and i’m not trying to give it a 50 Mission look, just make it feel softer and more crinkled than it currently is. Also, i can’t afford to wear it whilst mucking the horses out if that’s going to refuce its’ lifespan significantly. I don’t want it for the Duration Of Hostilities Only

The problem is that I think a lot of guys because they get interested in these things get overprotective of them and think they'll fall apart unless they're terribly careful with them. The fact of the matter is that the modern, high quality repros are almost always better constructed and put together than the originals - and look how they treated the originals. You'd be surprised how much hard wear these things can take. I'm one of the worst here probably and have done some seriously rough things with mine, and none have fallen apart.
You'll be amazed how much better it will look it you wear it in a bit of inclement weather and do some manual labour in it. I wasn't joking above either, lifting and carrying firewood in it works wonders. Sleep in it too - not to bed with the missus she'll think you've lost your marbles - fall asleep on the sofa watching TV in it and you'll be amazed at the creasing it'll quickly pick up.
