eBay Buyer Protection!!!

"New" banner across every page I go to. They must be trying to disassociate themselves from Paypal Protection. Falling profits etc...

I do not think the UK has this yet? The site still lists only the Paypal Protection policy..This policy covers only items sold on the US site..

What does eBay Buyer Protection cover?
eBay Buyer Protection covers items purchased on eBay with eligible payment methods that are not received or not as described in the listing. Some purchases are not covered, including prohibited or restricted items and items listed or that should be listed in the Motors (except for Parts and Accessories) and Real Estate categories. Most Business and Industrial categories are covered by eBay Buyer Protection. Remember, eBay Buyer Protection doesn't cover fraudulent charges or buyer remorse. Also, items must be purchased on the U.S. eBay.com website to qualify for eBay Buyer Protection coverage, and are covered for 45 days from the date of payment. Purchases made on Half.com and classified listings on eBay.com are not covered.

What happened to PayPal Buyer Protection?
PayPal Buyer Protection on eBay existed only for eBay customers who paid for their purchases through a PayPal account. Now purchase protection and issue resolution for your eBay purchases will be managed by eBay, for all eligible payment methods.

With eBay Buyer Protection, buyers will receive coverage for the purchase price of the item, plus original shipping. eBay Buyer Protection also introduces a new, streamlined process for customer service, so you can get help quickly either on the phone or online.

How does this program benefit sellers?
eBay Buyer Protection makes it easier for buyers and sellers to resolve issues with a new, streamlined process for customer assistance. We encourage buyers to work directly with sellers before opening a case because this is often the fastest and easiest way to resolve problems.

The new system also makes it easy for sellers to give their information to eBay. Sellers can always contact our customer support specialists to discuss their case 7 days a week, between 5:00 AM – 10:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Do I need to send the item back to the seller?
If you have opened an item not as described case for a purchase covered by eBay Buyer Protection, then you must send the item back to the seller. You must also provide eBay with the shipping tracking number in order to receive a refund into your PayPal account.

It would be good if you could pay on the US site with anything but Paypal!!

C'mon John...did you click on the hyperlink and read it!! ;)

No, Couchy that's the problem no-one ever does. This looks like some kind of insurance type cover I wonder how it will be financed ?
Increase in fees perhaps ?

I have just experienced the Paypal protection and was pleased with its outcome; I bid and won a WW2 leather jerkin (type seen in many pics especially RAF groundcrew), the seller described it as having no faults, rips or tears. When it arrived last Tuesday it had several moth holes in the lining and areas of tears and rips in the leather. The seller said I should have asked questions and refused to accept its return but immediately after filing a dispute through eBay who then passed it to Paypal I had their buyer protection. Despite the seller still refusing a return I was given their return address and told to return it and then I would have the full refund from Paypal which I have now had. Only gripe is they insist on a trackable return postage so I am out of pocket over £8.00 as the return postage isn't covered. Would still have preferreda leather jerkin but they turn up frequently anyhow. The seller got neg feedback from me and I see then relisted with all the faults listed but with a snide comment about me! Oh well.

I am 1000% certain it will be just like Paypal, drawn out response time, open to abuse etc.

Must have been someone's 'big idea' that earnt them a super bonus and some high fives...

Paul, as a buyer you have all the power..sellers on the other hand walk on egg shells. I have seen the slant of responses
change over the 10 years I have been buying from the US. When I started I was paying AU$7.95 to send Wester Union orders
and even more for Western Union transfers. And the Aussie dollar was at US$0.48. Sellers would happily wait out the transit time. Now sellers, if they will ship to Australia, will insist on Priority shipping as if it is Paypal's directive. This is purely to invoke seller protection. I ship the same way, at my expense though. For the sake of a $3.00 patch I am reluctant to pay US$27.95 to ship it in a Priority Envelope. And some sellers send the Priority invoice, ship USPS First Class and pocket the overage. If I were so inclined I could initiate an item not received claim and get every cent I paid back. But that is not how I operate.

I agree, I sell far more than I buy (not for want of trying!) and am permanently on edge when mailing overseas as I have had on two occasions charge-backs for non-delivery despite my proof of postage etc. There are indeed dishonest buyers who take advantage of their protection.
