Platon's only been back from his Holiday for about a week now. I was told that I would receive my seal sometime this month when I placed the order on eBay..

Well you should be getting yours before I get mine so please let us all know what you think.
I wonder about how long it takes Platon and his crew to make 1 jacket?

In other words is the GW worth nearly three times something like this Dubow or the AVI? I would say no, and I would predict the high-end manufacturers are in for some rough times, and I would further argue that the upper end jacket has reached the Maturity Stage of the product life cycle, and leaves manufacturers like Diamond Dave in an untenable position.

You predicted it...

The thing that I find ironic about all of this is that while Platon has not been the only one to figure this out or have this thought, he has been the only one to execute with any consistency. The initial claim of the DD/JC "partnership" was that the jackets would be "off the peg." Referring to DD, the thing was that to make up for other shortcomings in the business and marketing plan, it careened in a multitude of different directions like fireworks gone awry. There were multiple different leathers, production changes and updates, different finishes like the "combat clone," different contracts, custom sizing, the theme jackets, rigger mods, prices that went up and down like J.C. Penny, and on and on--hardly off the peg. Lack of focus and inconsistency.

Platon is truly off the peg: Custom sizes--NO. Different contracts--NO. Leathers choice--NO. Funky finishes or artwork--NO. Colors, well two, but only the traditional russet and seal. Pricing--consistent with the exception of the odd eBay listing at $400. If he can get the volume up and work out the production delays, keep the prices down and consistent, and not step on his Johnson with the rhetoric, the model is a winner.

I would love to know JC's thought on the DD partnership and plan now that is is nearly 5 years out and looks like it is effectively over.

Got my jacket today, ordered end of August, found Platon to be good to deal with, he turns out an impressive product for the money. Really happy, went up a size based on research here.

Overall the cut and fit are spot on for a ww2 patern. The hide is great can’t wait to break it in. Measures as shown, gotta go by the measurements, my aero bronco is a 44 measures almost the same.

Looks like an awesome jacket. Would you mind putting the measurements of your 46 up for us. We have them from the website but I was wondering how close yours is to the listed measurements .
cheers

Nice jacket.
My friend decided to order one for himself. For a week now he has been waiting for an answer to his email letter and has no reply yet.
Is this strange service part of the offer contract with Platon?

Yes, based on numerous posts from people who have ordered from Platon. However I do not believe I have seen a post here from anyone who has not been impressed with their jacket when it eventually arrives. Speaking personally I have always eventually received a response to any email I have sent to him .

Wow, that's a beauty! Love the color of the hide as well. Sizing up was the right choice.
Enjoy it!

I will say that patience with Platon is helpful, it follows the fast, good, cheap rule. You can only have two.

He does deliver a jacket on par with Eastman and Aero of which I own examples, this one feels more wartime less of an over done replica not super perfect. The wait was worth it, considering the cost. The Hyde is excellent, the color, grain and smell are outstanding. I got swatches it doesn’t really do it justice.

He does not include a zipper pull, easily cut from the sample. The seal sample I got seems to be russet dyed seal.

Platon quoted me a size 46 as

pit to pit 24.5
shoulders 19
back 25
sleeve 26

Here are some measurements with photos: (missed the shoulders but generally as quoted)
The waist knits are firm ( draw the waist in quite a bit), and I get the sense the jacket will relax some.

Thanks for posting those. Really like the jacket but that back length measurement kills it for me . Listed at 25 but I was hoping that maybe it would be on the longer side of 25 . I see that’s not the case.

I hope one day he makes tall versions. I’m 6’ and I’d like a Skosh more length in most regular A-2’s. But to be honest if I wear my pants at the right spot it’s fine. Most mil spec flight jackets sit that way on me. Had an alpha MA-1 on today and it sits at the waist the same.

If you take the A-2 waist too low it doesn’t look like a mil spec WW-2 replica it looks like a mall jacket.

Just my thoughts.
