We have above ankle height boots that we refer to as Jodphur boots but the sides are elasticated and not buckled. I believe the first use of the boots was for wear when playing Polo.

Yes, I have a pair of them from South Africa. They call them Chelsea boots here and they’re extremely popular. I bought a pair because I’m too lazy for laces.

They do make a similar type but too expensive for this cow poke. Now that I know what they are , I’m finding quite a variety of them out there. Range from 180 to 1700 bucks.Are these the same?

Not saying these are authentic, but something like these?
These are Natal boots made in Brazil. The ATC pilots picked them up on their way to the CBI. It's all explaine in Ivan Dimitri's great book Flight to Everywhere.
Oops - I'm wrong- those are made in India. Many pilots did get them in Brazil however

They’re still widely available too. Been browsing. Most are kind of stupid looking but there are a few that look pretty cool. If I can find a pair that look decent and don’t break the bank I might grab them. They’ll soon lose the shine as they’ll be around the property shit kickers.
The pair I had were old, the side elastic was coarse woven and thick leather soles , oh and more pointed toes, I'm sure you'll find a decent pair

To give my rather parochial view..
I'm in England, have horses and what we know as Jodphur boots are just above ankle height with elasticated panels on each side. For riding here thinner plain rubber or leather soles are preferred in order to feel our rather narrow stirrups which also dictate that very generally speaking buckles are not popular just in case you need to get your feet out and away of the stirrups in a hurry in the event of a "bail out". That said sole thickness is a matter of personal taste but safety is paramount. There are also versions of the same thing with thicker corrugated grip tread rubber soles used more for day to day walking etc. As I said earlier Chelsea, Dealer type boots are much of a muchness but can be plain or brogue type uppers.
Hogg's of Fife do a range of moderately priced Dealer, Jodphur, Chelsea type boots as do loads of others ranging from cheap n cheerful to mid range Loake, Barker and other Northampton makers.
For quality buy Lobb's then down quite a few tiers to Church's etc.
