Horizontal stitch or not you're gonna love them! This is what I've also heard, that the actual pair Ford was wearing is no longer produced (differences in leather colour and type I think). An indy boot in no.8 cordovan is my dream boot.
Those sound sweet . I edited my last post to include a thought about maybe sometime we could do a comparison post on the two styles, if anyone had an interest in that sort of info .
From what I read some time ago, Ford's originals were 405s and at that time were made of calfskin in a different brown shade. And yeah, no longer an offering by Alden -- but everything else about today's 405s and 403s are the same construction as those originals.

Ultimate Indy Boots
Yesterday I just opened my box of Ultimate Indy Boots from Leather Soul in Hawaii. Thought I'd share some photos of them and compare them to the original 405 boots from Alden... Major differences are Leather lined, lug sole, darker better leather and waxed laces...
Funny, I’ve got two pairs, and both were fine straight out of the box-except the buggers won’t break in! Months, and the leather barely creases.
These are my absolute favourites, they cropped up on ebay, I wasn't even convinced they were munson rangers but took a punt and got a bargain. They are more solid than rangers ive had and are so comfy I couldn't wish for a better boot
