Hartford Hospital is treating six people injured in today's plane crash, according to Dr. Kenneth Robinson.
Three people were critically injured, two patients had moderate injuries and one patient suffered minor injuries, Robinson said at a news conference.
The hospital, he said, activated their mass casualty plan, alerting everyone from the emergency room to blood banks, the pharmacy and the decontamination team because they “weren’t sure what the patients were exposed to.”
What we know: At least 14 people were injured in the crash at Bradley International Airport, according to Connecticut State Police Commissioner James Rovella. He confirmed that there were fatalities, but he didn't specify how many people died.

So sad... Will be interesting to read the NTSB report.

Returning to land with low altitude and no climb is not advised in multi engine airplanes. Try to land somewhere ahead. Maybe that was not an option.

909 was scheduled to be in my area later this month... I've enjoyed walking through this airplane the last 4 years. I am glad my kids were able to experience this aircraft although I had hoped they could some day go on a flight. I mourn those who were not able to walk away from this crash, and I wish swift and full recovery for those being treated for injuries.

I know it cannot be easy to keep these warbirds maintained, and I hope that this tragedy will not result in others being grounded.

It all depends on what advocacy groups feel offended by this and if this will get them some publicity and notoriety. Not going political here, but this seems to be the trend today .

Yeah well it’s definitely always a risk when flying and especially in a vintage aircraft… I actually booked a flight on it a couple years ago but canceled because a different flying Fortress showed up locally and save me a 3 Hour Drive. And even that one had engine trouble as we taxied out and we had to taxi back… Engine number three was miss firing… Had to get spark plug replaced but it got me a lot of extra time on that B-17 so I wasn’t complaining! The flight itself was spectacular! I would still fly on another one and hope to again one day soon… Maybe a B 24 is on my bucket list now!

We don't know the details, maybe they didn't have the opportunity to land ahead , who knows what was on the ground in front of them.

Old planes with pax ... One year ago, Ju-52 (built 1939) also crashed in Switzerland during pleasure flight, killing 20. The operator JU-Air was very serious cared maintanence and the bird was in perfect condition, but there were comments about corrosion in structural elements in the Preliminary Report. Any aircraft of this age can have problems even despite constant good maintanence.

indeed. so he had the privilege to fly in their B-17 I should say....
the B-17 I flew on the pilot told me he would be tanking a wide slow bank as the B-17 might not be able to take the stress. (I am paraphrasing what he said exactly)

Update: 7 people have died as of 6pm. ABC News reports the pilot called in failure of Engine 4 after climbing to about 800 feet. 10 paying passengers. 3 crew.

Terrible news indeed. I'm curious what happened exactly. Surely, the failure of engine 4 shouldn't have caused enough loss of power to crash, there must have been something else. What we can be sure of is that she was flown by the best hands, so I wouldn't think it was pilot error.
