5* or AVI?

Hi everyone. I'm a leather jacket newbie from the EU. I like the A2 Leather Bomber Jackets a lot, so I thought why wouldn't I get one.

I have been digging for a leather jacket that fits all of my needs.

I was firstly looking at vintage leather jackets from eBay, but decided that I would rather buy a new one. However, I couldn't find a new leather jacket that I like for a price under 400EUR. I've then found out about Repro Leather Jacket Manufacturers.
A couple of people on the Fedora Lounge forum have suggested me to check out Fivestar Leather's A2s. As you all are definitely aware, they have a couple of different A2 contract sorts that they are selling, such as Dubow, HH, Werber etc.
However, all of the high-end Repro Jackets (HH, Dubow, Star, Monarch, Werber) exceed the price tag of 300 EUR, which after shipping fees, taxes and VAT get even more expensive. That's why I was looking at their Bronco contracts.

Here is 2 of their more budget Bronco contracts that I was checking out:
1st one - goatskin leather, 2nd one - capeskin leather.

I asked which one of these previously mentioned two should I get on the Fedora Lounge (my username is leatherp) forum, and I've got mixed results.
One person said that I should get the goatskin leather one, according to my sizing and needs. Others told me that 5*'s Broncos aren't made according to a real jacket that they patterned off of. One person said that the goatskin leather one flakes really fast. Basically, they were saying that I shouldn't go for the Bronco contract.
Also, 5* has a contract called David D. Doniger, is it good? No one mentioned it on the Fedora Lounge.

I've continued my research of a good repro leather jacket (as 5*'s high-end contracts were too expensive), but this time I was looking for a Repro Manufacturer that is based in Europe, so I could avoid VAT.

I stumbled upon you guys and found a very helpful thread that included a list of reputable manufacturers.
Because of you guys, I have found out about the AVI leather.

Upon looking at their website, I've found out that they are also selling the Bronco contract jackets, but for higher prices (around 300 EUR). If I purchase their jacket, I wouldn't have to pay for VAT, but because of high shipping fees to Croatia, I would end up paying the same amount as on 5*.

So basically, the maximum amount that I would give for a leather jacket is 375 EUR (after taxes, VAT and shipping). The only contracts that I could afford with that budget is the 5*'s and AVI's Broncos.

My question is, should I buy from 5* or from AVI?

Thank you all in advance and sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just a noob :D.

I did a review of AVI's Bronco here.

Word of advice, if you are of average build, go one size up from your chest (wearing a T-shirt or light top).
Example, if you are 42", buy a 44"
Larger body, go up two sizes for a more comfortable fit.

Second bit of advice, if you are unsure, buy two jackets, one size up and two sizes up. Compare. Go from there.
Return the one that fits least best. This way, you will KNOW which one fits best.
Small price to pay for return postage of the other to Denmark.

With AVI you can return or refund, no hassle. So there's minimal risk.

Good luck

AVI's work looks like it's made with better quality materials. I also love the seal brown, it looks so cool. Thanks for the response!
Materials are pretty similar. Both are Pakistani manufactured. Avi's Bronco pattern is just much more accurate than 5*, but 5* uses 100% wool knits which is an improvement over Avi's blended knits. I think 5*'s spec labels look better as well. IMO, go with the seal goatskin Avi Bronco. It's a perfect starter A-2 if you live outside of the U.S.. Within the U.S., I'd recommend Headwind's Bronco for that price bracket.

Both companies will allow minor size adjustments for free. Email Shawn from 5* and Morten from AVI and ask some questions that might help you decide which jacket you want to get. FYI, 5* usually have sale during the holidays. Good luck. Also, I think the AVI list price already includes taxes, VAT.
