Which G-1 ?

Good luck finding a size 44-46 1950's original in great shape and at a reasonable price. Hence, the repro is a welcome idea around here.

I've got a Foster 7823 size 46 in excellent condition which was $280 USD. This contract was enormous. Something like a Dubow would be much harder to source I think. I certainly couldn't find one.

Funnily enough, UK or German ebay seems to be cheaper these days perhaps because really poor listings seem more common. For example I just picked up this ELC Luftwaffe. It's hardly been worn......

Eastman G-1 sell for similar but A2s are where the action is. Eastman Monarchs etc. cause bun fights and normally sell for much more !

Monarch jackets are considered by many collectors to be the best of the Navy G-1 jackets as the quality of goatskin and workmanship are without par.

also

Werber made a number jackets for the Army Air Corps prior to and after WWII. They only had one contract for Navy G-1 jackets in the early 1950s so this jacket is reasonably rare.

I agree,
I picked a mint condition/hardly worn ELC G1 a few years back and due to poor listing I was the only bidder and got the jacket for £55 incl. postage....this has been my best bargain since being bitten by the jacket bug back in 2006.

Exactly my thoughts Steve.

Hang on, I remember thinking the same thing about an M-422...

If I could find a G&F M422 original in my size and mint condition for less than $2000 I 'd buy it.

I think we can all assume that we're are actually talking about an M-422A, but since there is a M-422 model, some people might be confused?

G&F made only M422A correct?

what about a G1 contract which doesn't have the rib/rack and single-weave knits but the later double weave cuffs/waistband (same as the A2), as the early G1s look much like the M422As which you already produce......maybe a contract from the late 50's or 60's.

thank you for your suggestion
but I think people believe that something of older design has more value.
The later signle weave knits G-1 can be found from others.
The market is full of them.

How about the interesting and rather rare L.W Foster AN-J-3a? everyone likes the 55j15, but with Eastman doing their 'version' and Goodwear about to bring one out, I think it would be a very nice choice.

left pencil pocket stitching, and red lining. The only problem would be finding the right styl of buttons.

good pics here...

I'm lucky enough to own two of these, one with the remnants of very nice painted artwork, but the jacket is in a very bad way, and another in very good knick.
