Gotta add my 2 penny's worth as I'd go for Cagleco, not that I've had any other's to really compare but I think my '57 is 'the nuts' as we say and I'd be hard pushed to better it I reckon!!
I was always after an M442/a only 'cos of it's poss lineage being a likely piece of WWII history - I also prefer the pocket flap shape and more pointed collar but the early G1's aren't that far removed so unless a pristine M442/s comes my way I'll stick with that.
As to the linings, I thought A2's were originally supposed to be and some were indeed silk - isn't it is actually a warmer lining than cotton? Silk as we know is more costly hence the probable change in A2's and then once man made 'satin or rayon' came into being I guess that would have offered not only savings but easier to mass produce.
