What made you choose A-2 of a group/squadron?

Good afternoon to everyone,

i'm considering buying a reproduction of an A-2 (I'm looking for documentaries to get attached to one or another bomber group).

I can't decide which group to refer to. I'd like to know what were the reasons for your choice for one group or another (Maybe just the offer from the manufacturer).

If you have any advice or know any fascinating stories, I'll accept suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi, I have never sewn a patch onto any jacket so far.
However, I bought two: one from the 67th Fighter Squadron because it has a "French" vibe, and one from the 709th Bomb Squadron because I found it aesthetic.
In the end, I haven’t patched anything, not sure I’d feel comfortable wearing it.

I’d say the choice is yours. It could be a geographic connection, like a base near where you live, a logo you like, or a pilot you particularly admire, etc.

I had a family friend who flew with the 381st BG, 534th BS in WWII. Grew up hearing some of his stories and was immediately fascinated. Have had both the 534th and 532nd insignia on jackets because the colors of the insignias go with just about everything in my wardrobe and the actual insignias are really neat looking. Maybe not the easiest squadrons to find reproduction insignia for. Had the 532nd patch made by Nicholas Gamarello who does fantastic work (pictured on my Eastman B-10). I think finding a geographic connection is a great idea.

I have had the 548th bomb squadron, 385th bomb group (Bugs Bunny on a bomb) on two A-2’s now, for no other reason than I like the design. I had to have a B-17 unit for obvious reasons, and after a great deal of soul-searching, that one just appealed to me the most. I also had the 527th bomb squadron on another A-2, but I couldn’t find a decent patch of it. I used to have a nice tooled leather one by Jerome Urbaniak via Aero, but they don’t do them any more.

I own several repro jackets with a patch/patches ...

Since i do not have any relatives in the US i do not have any connection to specific squadrons

I preffer squadrons which have been famous for special accomplishments during their service (no matter whether in combat or in peaceful periods)

Choosing any patches i go for squadrons of the ETO as well as PTO (mostly USN)

Historically significant would be any jacket which was originally personalised - but they are pretty hard to find (almost no chance in my size 46) and extremely expensive ...
