What jacket(s) are you wearing at the moment?

I think we've been through this one before ZuZu. IMO, wearing patches and insignia, especially of currently active military branches and units is viewed by many as a stolen valor of sorts.

I don't personally know ANY Marine veterans, who WOULDN'T have an issue with someone donning an EGA or unit patches when they hadn't served. I'd catch all kinds of hell if I chose to wore the jacket around them.

I envy our non-US members in that regard. It's pretty much a non-issue for them.
Sorry- I didn't get the "stolen valor" aspect- I thought you were worried about the patches physically. As far the veterans part of it- Marines who served in the time period of the patches wouldn't care and in fact might be pleased for the attention- current Marines don't have much say IMO- this was a time and place far away. You look about 25- no one's gonna think you're wearing this jacket for weird reasons and anyone who does now has some deep seated insecurities. I worked for 10 years at a Veteran's Hospital- the Marines I met there wouldn't give a shit, That would be some modern GWOT bullshit.

Thanks for your perspective on it ZuZu. Much appreciated.

At least the jacket got a "ooohhhh" response from the wife this morning. That never happens. I asked if she needed to call me Maverick later. :D

I was also wondering but I get the point.

Yeah seems I just forgot there is still a difference in wearing such insignia abroad or in the country where these patches/jackets are issued.

I think I've told this story before, but I used to work close to Great Lakes Naval Training Center. In late Spring and early Fall I'd drive my drop-top to work on Fridays, often wearing my '50s G-1.

Fridays were also days for lunch at the local burger drive-in... where there would often be Navy personnel lunching, too. I got a little too self conscious of the side eyes from brass hats and stopped wearing the G-1.

Oh yeah, and my G-1 was unadorned.
