I just kinda swim in it. I told JC to make it big and he kept asking "Are you sure?" but I insisted. It's a size too big for me.

Still looks great though. Comfortable size 46 next time?

Incredibly mild for this time of year inside the Arctic Circle, 10 Celsius and pissing down most of the day.

Perfect Barnstormer weather. Easily one of my favourite jackets/coats. I'm a lazy bugger so here's an old photo

to be honest, I was surprised that the collar is actually quite soft and comfortable to wear.
I got a great piece of replacement real mouton for the collar from Bryce but did not use it in the end as I wanted to keep the jacket as original as possible and as said, started to like the collar as is.
for a daily beater of a jacket it does what it should do and the blackish colour looks quite good too IMHO

The one thing that has stopped me buying a G-1 or a M-422 jacket over all these years are the squitty little collars.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool old school WWI and interwar fella, if it's got sheepskin, fur, etc on the collar then the collar should be big and not look like one of those hideous furry toilet seat covers popular in the 70s that G-1s et al remind me of.

I know that will rub many up the wrong way but Smithy calls it how he sees it.

I can remember those covers from my childhood days, but growing up in a county where temperatures in winter fell down to nice shearling levels (-25 or less, Celsius we talk of), such a cover was quite nice to have as an additional safety measure to prevent freezing symptoms on certain family values...
otherwise I know what you mean.

as I am rather easy to please with regard to USN jackets, I just love my Star 7823D G-1.

and I say thank you for bringing up some memories of my childhood days in the Tyrol in the late 70ies.
probably some of the best times to live and grow up in as a boy....

Smithy, as a die hard U.S.N intermediate jacket lover, you're killing me with this....

That said, I love and admire that brutal honesty!!

And don't get me wrong either, I'm also one for a proper big heavy weight shearling collar - I just love shearling!!!

TBH, being a strapping young lad of something like 7 years old, I was neither too deeply concerned about nor too deeply involved in cleaning those thingies
but you are absolutely right, thats one more reason (in another quadzillion ones) to hug her big time whenever there is the chance to do so
