It’s been a while since I posted in this thread, so I thought I’d share a jacket with you that was finally cool enough to wear today . Even though it’s a repro, its kind of a rare bird in that there were only a limited number of this A2 contract made by John Chapman of Good Wear Leather Co. The A2 Contract I’m referring to is the Cable Raincoat Co. 42-10008P. The original contract for this jacket was issued to the Cable Raincoat Co. of Boston, Massachusetts , in January 1942, for a total of 10,000 jackets at a staggering price of $7.75 each . Now there’s no need for any math algorithms to figure out that the total award of this contract was $77,500.00. The contract called for goatskin to be used as the hide of preference . There were two types of snaps used ; Carr small ring and in some instances larger stainless steel snaps, the backs of which were uncovered, unlike most A2 jackets. The zip in the second version was a Conmar zipper. This contract did not have a collar stand. BTW This contract is no longer offered as an option on the GW website, so I’m not sure if JC still makes this contract A2. I hope you guys enjoyed this little bit of information and the following photos of one of the rarer Good Wear jackets made by JC.
