Spot on with the engine Burt, and thanks for the know words. It does cause some surprises...
That lovely Mk 1 has brought back lots of good memories...In London back in the early '60s into the '70s I used to drive Mk1s and later on 2s, mostly 4 cyl Consuls as the Zephrs and Zodiacs were pricier and thirstier. driven intil something went wrong and abnadoned , the engines were bulletproof so usually something else. Often wouldn't pay more than £20. quite often a tenner for one that would last maybe a year. As the MOT test got more rigourous it put paid to a lot of that...
One could have the coveted American look in a smaller version obviously more suited to British roads, Late '50s Vauhall Veloxs were "blingier", bigger wings , more chrome but Fords were more fancied here as less prone to rust. My favourite was a mk 2 convertible that I gave to a friend who played double bass when his van broke down, with top down the bass fitted nicely. I even drove a 6 or 7 year old Mk 3 to Istanbul and back in the mid 70s and apart from pulling the exhaust off on the dreadful road through Yugoslavia it didn't miss a beat.Whenever I meet old vehicle friends we reminisce about how we wished we had had storage places to keep them all till they had apprecoited in value like now.
Ok, that's my trip down memory lane over for a while, to keep it relevant I would have been wearing a leather motorbike jacket some of the time whilst driving them and by mid '70s original A2s.

Chuffin' cold weather in my neck of the woods today! Bit of a consolation was the opportunity to wear the GW Werber mixed batch B-3. I love this jacket and one of John's finest, IMHO, but don't get to wear it much, though something tells me this year maybe different. Seem to be going through a cap phase too for a day or two - Mash C-3. Went for a hot cup of coffee after these pics by my dear lady wife.
