Brief reference guide of B-10 Jacket buttons.

(Incomplete, but enough to give a rough idea of button variation.)

(Please note, I have no experience with B-10 Jackets whatsoever. A wish-list item for many years now. I've never researched them in full detail until this point as a new member of the VLJ forum.)

B-10 Jacket Buttons. It's personal preference, what looks good to you? They're all different!

(The original buttons here, appear quite different compared to the original A9 Trouser button in the above post, so I'm sure original buttons must vary greatly as well)

I'd be curious to ask GW about their original B-10 Jacket buttons. Chance to find a box of NOS buttons that were hiding on a dusty shelf in the back of some old abandoned warehouse or something? In my search just now, I came across a small carton of 250 buttons from WWII for US dress shirts, something like that, you know? Ah the stuff dreams are made of.

Until my blueprints for a flux capacitor are finally realized, we have some modern reproduction options that will have to make do for now.

Just, where to find a public source for these things?!?

Anyway, apologies for the thread derailment, this is the D signing off for now, over and out.

Dumpster D - it is an original B2 cap, but with wearing it for quite a few years when driving my MB the sheepskin on top gradually disintegrated and I patched it up , eventually the top was all leather patches. 'Er indoors hates it and since I wore it last has "tidied" it away somewhere, she's up in town for a couple of weeks so may have to wait for me to photo it. Further to the recent flurry on original buttons I have these , most taken from a 40s'50s pair of British battledress trousers which were so mothed when I dug them out again a few years back got thrown away but of course I kept the buttons for a rainy day but don't think they'll ever be used by me so if they are of use to anyone for cost of the stamp from UK, let me know. The larger are about 18mm

After looking at some of these B-10's variations briefly.

Given a choice, I actually want to take a good close look at the 'Cockpit' brand B-10 Jacket.

Looks like It has an 'orangey' tint to the colour of the collar, what is that colour called?

I think it's really neat how the top stitching gives the jacket some added 'pop' with the light coloured buttons (It would be nice to know what that colour is called too) I would prefer that over some of the darker coloured collars and dark buttons, at least how I visualize it with some of the other clothes I might wear to go with it. Whether that's accurate/true to original B-10 Jackets or not? I don't know. Then what kinds of things should be taken into consideration in terms of authenticity/originality of a B-10 Jacket.

ATF would be my close second pick probly, though the cloth looked a bit different and I don't know how accurate it is to an original jacket. I really need to spend time mulling it all over. So many different B-10 flavours out there right now. Bronson also looked very good, but I guess currently unavailable?

Anyone have any experience with the 'cockpit' B-10 Jacket? How does it look, fit, and feel compared to others?

Purchasing a repro B-10 without being able to try it on firsthand, there's just too many to choose from, and it's hard to tell without trying something on in the mirror to see if it works for me visually.

(If this has already been covered before, I'll try to search for the right threads)

Ties -thanks. Your improvements certainly helped. Your pics wearing it looks terrific. From a short distance, I really don't see any difference between 5 Star and the major brands. The sheep exterior looks as good as any. I am partial for/to seal brown. The shearling looks great and they seemed to get the overall details very well. Only perhaps with the pocket, sleeve reinforcements, etc. its not that high end beautiful HH/cow that the top makers use. Not sure how much you have worn it but it looks like some and of course the break in really helps the overall look. I love the offerings from GW and ELC, they are amazingly accurate and beautify but I think a vintage flight jacket enthusiast can enjoy a perfect normal life wearing one of these 5 Star B-3's and be perfectly content. My guess is there are no issues wearing it. In short, congrats and great work from Shawn and his team. Oh, and its a heck of a good price.

So the temps went down to 51F here today, and out came a recent find . An ELC BOB size 48. (I know … I’m pathetic… but it’s the only chance I get to wear an Irvin. I know Chandler I should have brought it to Montana ) ;)
John Lever…. This is the one you ask me about .

Oh no - although I did get away with a down vest until surprisingly late into November.

But yeah, with shearling I don't bother layering and can't really fit it under the thicker ones. I probably could layer under my B-6, maybe the Irvin. But the B-3 or M-444? Nah.
