Vac Bags

Has anyone else tried the saleable plastic bags that can be vacuumed to store jackets ?
I bought two last week and have stored B-3's in them. The space reduction is quite dramatic so they now look like Biltong !

They should keep moths away for the summer. But on the bag it states not recommended for leather.

Biltong huh? You're very brave .... I wouldn't be sleeping.

Please bear in mind that the bags are not suitable for leather, fur or silk material, and they should not be used with feather and down filled items or perishable foods.

It gives no reason why though. After 24 hours I opened them up and they are OK.

An expensive way to find out.
Remember I am the man who started all the washing and tumbling of £500 jackets. A wee plastic baggie holds no fear..

Leather jackets should never be wrapped in plastics most of us wrap leather apparel like pants and jackets in plastic bags thinking that they are safer and much more secure inside, but that is not the case. Leather apparel needs to be stored in an open location so that air can circulate properly. Always bear in mind that freshness should be considered most when storing leather apparel. You should store leather goods in a cool dry place to ensure its durability when not in use.

I use Ikea's reinforced suit bags- they have fold out solid walls to avoid putting pressure on the contents (though they seem to have stopped making them).

I've sometimes wondered if the reason all the jackets that Thai guys sells are so crumpled from using vac bags. Every one of his offerings (I can't recall his seller name) appear to have been subject to some form of compression. I can imagine that might be the case considering the heat and humidity of B.K.

I'm with David here. I just wouldn't store my leather jackets in plastic, especially airtight plastic. I made a large garment myself out of some cotton muslin and a big 27 inch zipper that I picked up at my local fabric store. It keeps the dust and dirt off of my heavy winter jackets all summer while they are on the floor of the closet.

I understand why he's looking for a way to keep moths from having a go at the knits, them pesky larvae can do a lot of expensive damage. I thought about using a plastic compression bag, these have a one way air valve that allows you to 'push' the air out...not a vacuum seal, but airtight), as a way to store my jackets.
