So I posted not too long ago about a private purchase A2 I got that was sold by Windy City Sportswear. I finally got it in hand and was blown away by what I was able to find with it.
I’d always wanted an original flight jacket from WWII to have for my collection and over the past month had been watching a nice private purchase A2 on eBay that had some ghosting stitch holes from patches on the left and right breast.
The jacket has a nice label in it from Windy City Sportswear and has very similar features to a government contract Dubow A.C. 1755. It features a nice jacket made of quarter horse hide, one piece back with a three piece sleeve, 1930s style talon zipper, a nice ribbed knit cuff, and olive lining.
Being that it was being sold as a vintage jacket and not as a military jacket I was able to get it for a great price.
The jacket came in and I could not be more pleased. I was able to identify the patches as belonging to the 7th Fighter Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group, this particular group flew P40s out of Australia as part of the 5th Air Force. I was able to find inside the right cuff along the lining the serial number O-794471 which is identified to Lt. Robert W Croft of the 7th Fighter Squadron.
What went from a vintage leather jacket for sale on eBay has turned out to be an identified private purchase A2 flight jacket of a WWII Fighter Pilot.
The pictures show the jacket and I edited one photo to show what the outlines of the patches look like along with what the patches looked like. I also was able to find a photo of the original owner Lt. Robert W Croft
More photos in the reply.
