The USPS has gone completely off the cliff.
One of the things that pisses me off is paying for 3 day priority mail delivery and then having your package arrive late, sometimes by as many as 7 days. This happens a lot and the post office NEVER .. refunds the additional cost you pay for 3 day delivery service.

USPS is the absolute model of efficiency. Check out the tracking on a package that I recently received. Can someone please get them a damn map of the US?

+1...me as well. No scanning or tracking updates until the package arrives at the destination facility.

Oh well...recent shipment from the UK to the Netherlands: after about two weeks we could track it at.... Customs in Zurich, Switzerland. Another two weeks later it was delivered at my door.

Another recent shipment, DHL, from Germany to the Netherlands: the very moment it arrived in the Netherlands it was immediately returned to the seller in Germany. Neither me nor the seller were able to find out why.

Had a lot of shipments go well though.

I was looking at your tracking history, and I had to map it out just to make sense of it. Turns out, your package traveled approximately 5,088 miles before finally reaching its destination! That's 20% of the way round the globe!

Here’s the breakdown of its journey:

1. It started in Newburyport, MA, and made stops in Middlesex-Essex, MA and Richmond, VA – so far, so good.
2. Then, for some bizarre reason, USPS decided it needed to see the Pacific Northwest, sending it all the way to Seattle, WA and Spokane, WA.
3. After its scenic detour, it was routed through Kansas City, MO and Saint Louis, MO before heading to Oklahoma.
4. Finally, after over 5,000 miles of travel, it made it to Yukon, OK.

It’s wild how much unnecessary distance this package covered. I get that USPS has hubs, but how does Massachusetts → Virginia → Seattle → Oklahoma make any sense?

At this point, the package has probably seen more of the U.S. than most people do in a year. Has anyone else had their shipments take these ridiculous cross-country tours?

Yes…. It’s been an on going problem for the last five years or more. Worst part is when you call USPS for their help in locating the package …. They either can’t find it or take several days to get back to you. I had a package take a route like the one above and finally got desperate and called the post office customer service line to ask for their help.
Was told they’d attempt to locate the package and get back to me. The package arrived the next day . Three days later I heard from Customer Service telling me that my package was on the way and I should have it by the next day !!

It's too bad that everyone seems to have such different experiences.

I had a FedEx package sent to me from the west coast that was delayed from its original expected date by 2 days -- 6 days total, IIRC.

I sent a package USPS Priority Mail, extra insurance, to the West Coast and it was delayed by half a day (over a weekend), but still only took 3.5 days.

I was also able to track it all along the way.

And yeah, I know I probably just jinxed my USPS experience from now on, but hey.
