I will certainly go after this piece of history, Read this quotation of what it says on the lining of the jacket: "The materials used in the constructions of this garment comply with applicable Avirex LTD specifications."
What peace of mind will this give me, knowing I'll finally be wearing a jacket that 's up to official Avirex specs!!

What do you say: the sellers is naive or what?

He lives about 20 minutes from me, so if anyone wants me to authenticate this fine piece of military history I would be glad to help out. I think I remember seeing pictures of Jimmy Doolittle wearing this exact jacket.

Avirex Air Technical Training Command?

I agree. Don't know who is more foolish. The person selling or buying? There is a sucker born every minute!!! ;)

Couldn't resist and asked a question.

Your kidding right? This jacket is no where near vintage, unless
1980s is vintage. BTW, there never was an Avirex Air Technical
Training Command either. :)

No, I am not kidding. I bought this from the original owner in 1983. I do not know when he bought it except he said he had owned it for several years. So are you saying it is new?

I can't help but add my two cents worth to this thread...that "dragon" patch is from the 3rd Marine Amphibious Force, the counterpart of MACV in Saigon and command group for I Corps and DMZ, RVN. I was attached to III MAF in '67. Now how in God's name could Pearl Harbor and III MAF be sandwiched together? I'm not a jacket expert but there are limits to being dumb and dumb-er.

These patched Avirex jackets are pretty standard, they use the same patches for their G-1 'Top Gun' and a G-2 jackets.

They also have another version of a patched A-2 with a mish mash of patches. If you look at the sales price, some of these have resale values that hold up pretty well.

"Fits a man size 40 to 44. Jacket fits like a glove"

Fits like a glove if you're a size 40? Or 44? What if you're a 42 - is it too large or too small?

The mish mash of patches is a laugh - they did a brown "bomber" jacket about 10 yrs. ago with just the Pearl Harbor patch on the sleeve. They must have a bin of generic military-esque patches that are used and re-used on multiple styles of jackets.

What has the world come to?
Regards,
Joe

Ya gotta remember Joe, some of these guys are like me, they thought the book, "Cowboys of the Sky" wuz flight jacket gospel and not an informercial in book form. We bought these mass produced 'painted' (silkscreen or some type of dye transfer process) jackets for premium prices. These mass produced "limited edition" jackets have become collectors items...uh, I have a few of them and still like them for what they are...would I pay $300 now ? Absolutely not. But I would pay $ 100 for one on eBay ? (I did recently http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWNX:IT) I'll add it to my Avirex collection.

These Airvex jackets have seemed to become a "cult" hit in our Far East neighborhoods. Anything to do with "top Gun" and any of the patches with "Top Gun" have gone crazy on EBay the last few years.

Maybe because you guys concentrate on the good jacket syou have not seen this. But, I search all flight jacket hits on eBay as you never know what you might find, and I have noticed these farce jackets going for a lot of duckets lately.

Dunno why.....just that they do.....
