So … the Show of Shows is over and we all agreed that we had a great time and picked up some cool stuff along the way. I picked up another pair of mint original WWII buckle boots today again for less than the cost of a pair of repros. Along the way I found some rare WWII fighting knives for my WWII knife collection.
I’m already planning and looking forward to coming back next year. For those of you who weren’t able to make it, I really hope you’ll plan to see this next year. I told Jan that this would be a great place for our next VLJ reunion. You have to see it, it’s just impossible to convey thru the written word just how much military stuff is accessible here. In fact this afternoon we saw a guy walking down the hall with a “Ma Duce” M2 Fifty Cal Machine Gun. It’s crazy …

I had a customer from work offer to gift me what was said to be his father's M-1918 (father was in 82nd AB, his step-father an AVG pilot). When I went to pick it up, the knife was unfortunately a repro. The customer's brother had swapped the original out for a repro knife many years back and he had forgotten that it had occurred.

That's as close as I'll come to owning one.

While we're sort of on the subject...is there a thread on VLJ dedicated to surplus small arms? I'd love to see what's in some member's collections (if it's not against the rules).

I think there have been discussions in "Life Beyond the Internet". I live in California and great legend has it that the DOJ peeks in at discussion boards to see what's up. Don't know if that's true but we in Cali are loath to "show our stuff" on the internet. Everyone's paranoid as hell even though I think enforcement of dumb shit is actually nil. The California gun people are kinda weird in that if they think the 2nd Ammendment is an "inalienable right" then they technically should not obey but instead all they do is whine and cry. The only people actually enjoying their rights are the gangbangers and thugs. They are armed to the teeth and don't seem paranoid at all!
