Apart from my family & friends, everything else of real value to me is locked in my brain: memories of the people i have met and places i have been. Priceless. Everything else in life is but tut and trinketry...... i’m not it is smart tobe too locked into things unless they unlock or reinforce those memories.
Waxing lyrical & philosophically now done ;)

Make sure your family know how significant that jacket is and why it is unique.

I have tubs full of all the uniforms and paraphernalia tied to my career and my deployments... The medals are the most significant elements for families generally... My kids wouldn't know what's what....but the boy wants my combat belt/holster more than anything else..??

Very much so. I made a point of integrating my kids into both the museum and associated things I've been involved with, meeting and spending time listening to veterans, attending reunions with us , hosting some as guests in our home and we in theirs. Both are now involved with another WW2 museum so I can but hope they will carry the torch forward. Fortunately my wife is into it all as well which certainly helped smooth the journey ;)
