Classic gear up landing but it looks as if it was caught in the nick of time - the pilot probably heard a horrendous noise on landing - realized the gear was up and did a pull up - went around and then got the gear down for landing - it would have been a heart stopper after a long arduous mission.

Either that or he somehow managed to get the nose really down and the prop hit the runway - looks as if it's a low power strile from the shape of the blades being bent back - high power and the blade tips curl forward.

Hey Marcel , awesome photos , the Donald Duck art did inspire a unit emblem , one for the US Navy and it was VU/VJ-5 which was a "Untility" Squadron in WW2 , they usually did Tow Target work or cargo and troop movement types of operations .
Really like the photo of the man holding leather jacket from the 43rd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 64th Bombardment Squadron imsignia on the A-2 from the 43rd Bombardment Group is thier early 1st design, it has an American Indian holding in his left hand a Tomahawk and he's riding/standing on a falling aerial bomb with a 5 point star behind him and a small cloud to lower right bottom of background . This is only the second time I have seen this emblem in use , I have one photo of it painted directly onto a cloth jacket .
The "43rd" on the jacket is also unusual as they did have a Group emblem "approved " which is very different than what is on the jacket ,do you possibly have a close up photo of this emblem in the photo ????????

Yes, Marcel , you found the image I was telling you about , Donald Duck riding in the coin operated aircraft at top left of your image ! I have seen it printed on the match book covers they made during WW2 , but not sure if it was ever used "Officially" in a patch or on aircraft etc .
Johnny
Happy New Year All !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
