Useful info! Can you recommend any sources? I would like to learn more about kanaljackets and those ugly grey leather jackets which look like a poor man's G-1. And why there are so many Hartmann jackets.

I highly recommend this book. You will find all the material used by the pilots. "Kanal" jackets are described in detail in all their variations. Some civilian cyclist jackets (Hartmann) are also discussed.
It's quite expensive, but it's a real bible.
