Come to think of it,put some arms and a collar on it and it would like a great jacket. I think the Edwardians liked short stiff collars(?) It might look like a very nice shooting jacket and be a hit with the Sloan Rangers.

I commented on the FL when the new Aero styles were announced that this was my favourite. Sadly all so far listed from the new range on the sale pages have been small size 38's. Coincidently a few days after seeing the waistcoat on line I found a massive photographic book on Shakleton's Antarctic Expedition for £2.00 in a local charity shop!

I'm considering a repro WW2 Leather jerkin on EBay (Silverman's I think) for £89.
Might be an alternative?

A lot of similar styles were 'dug' up from the Mary Rose which sank in 1545. My friend Mark wears one that he made from deerskin which looks the part.

Ian,
The Shackleton is in a different league to the MOD jerkins. It is tailored in the waist and the pockets are tasteful and useful. My old 1941 jerkin is very basic.

Those Silvermans are not good and for around the same money you can easily pick up an original WW2 jerkin in vgc, size 2 is the size to go for and beware of post-war Belgian versions being sold as WW2 British although they too aren't bad. In a book on WW2 British uniforms there are photos (modern re-enactors) wearing the WW2 jerkins which have had sleeves and collars from greatcoats added during the war and they look really impressive.

Thanks for the advice Paul.
I'm looking for a general workhorse wearer: gardening/chores, etc. so I'd be more comfortable with a post-war Belgian one in any case.
I'll keep looking.
Cheers
Ian
